Title | Geometry of Supersymmetric Gauge Theories : Including an Introduction to BRS Differential Algebras and Anomalies |
Author(s) | Gieres, Francois |
Publication | Berlin, Heidelberg, Springer Berlin Heidelberg, 1988. |
Description | VIII, 191 p : online resource |
Abstract Note | This monograph gives a detailed and pedagogical account of the geometry of rigid superspace and supersymmetric Yang-Mills theories. While the core of the text is concerned with the classical theory, the quantization and anomaly problem are briefly discussed following a comprehensive introduction to BRS differential algebras and their field theoretical applications. Among the treated topics are invariant forms and vector fields on superspace, the matrix-representation of the super-Poincar?? group, invariant connections on reductive homogeneous spaces and the supermetric approach. Various aspects of the subject are discussed for the first time in textbook and are consistently presented in a unified geometric formalism. Requiring essentially no background on supersymmetry and only a basic knowledge of differential geometry, this text will serve as a mathematically lucid introduction to supersymmetric gauge theories |

Title | Time-Harmonic Electromagnetic Fields in Chiral Media |
Author(s) | Lakhtakia, Akhlesh;Varadan, Vijay K;Varadan, Vasundara V |
Publication | Berlin, Heidelberg, Springer Berlin Heidelberg, 1989. |
Description | VII, 121 p. 8 illus : online resource |
Abstract Note | This book deals with the fundamental aspects of electromagnetic field theory in chiral media in the frequency domain. All such aspects are covered: field equations, constitutive equations, integral equations and representations, Green's functions, radiation, reciprocity relations, and equivalence and duality relations. Scattering of waves by chiral spheres and cylinders are covered, and layered chiral media are examined. This book is timely both for theorists and experimentalists. Theorists can build upon the work to discover and predict new phenomena, while experimentalists may use it to design clever experiments and construct artificially chiral materials |

Title | Numerical Methods for the Simulation of Multi-Phase and Complex Flow : Proceedings of a Workshop Held at Koninklijke/Shell-Laboratorium, Amsterdam Amsterdam, The Netherlands, 30 May ??? 1 June 1990 |
Author(s) | Verheggen, T.M.M |
Publication | Berlin, Heidelberg, Springer Berlin Heidelberg, 1992. |
Description | VI, 153 p : online resource |
Abstract Note | The nine review articles contained here introduce the techniques required touse lattice gas methods for numerical simulations of complex flows. Furthermore, lattice Boltzmann models are studied together with classical numerical techniques. The editors have written an extensive introductionto this exciting new approach to solving practical problems in modelling andsimulating flows. The book addresses numerical analysts and engineers in fluid mechanics, but also graduate students |

Author(s) | Dervieux, Alain;Larrouturou, Bernard |
Publication | Berlin, Heidelberg, Springer Berlin Heidelberg, 1989. |
Description | VII, 483 p. 142 illus : online resource |
Abstract Note | Interest in numerical combustion is growing among applied mathematicians, physicists, chemists, engine manufacturers and many industrialists. This proceedings volume contains nine invited lectures and twenty seven contributions carefully selected by the editors. The major themes are numerical simulation of transsonic and supersonic combustion phenomena, the study of supersonic reacting mixing layers, and turbulent combustion. Emphasis is laid on hyperbolic models and on numerical simulations of hydrocarbon planes with a complete set of chemical reactions carried out in two-dimensional geometries as well as on complex reactive flow simulations |

Title | Quantum Dynamical Semigroups and Applications |
Author(s) | Alicki, Robert;Lendi, Karl |
Publication | Berlin, Heidelberg, Springer Berlin Heidelberg, 1987. |
Description | VIII, 198 p. 1 illus : online resource |
Abstract Note | In this text the authors develop quantum dynamics of open systems for a wide class of irreversible processes starting from the concept of completely positive semigroups. This unified approach makes the material easily accessible to non-specialists and provides an easy access to practical applications. Written for graduate students, the book presents a wealth of useful examples; in particular, models of unstable and N-level systems are treated systematically and in considerable detail including new types of generated Bloch-equations. The general theory is extensively summarized from abstract dynamical maps to those obtained by a reduction of Hamiltonian dynamics under a Markovian approximation. Various methods of determining semigroup generators and the corresponding master equations are discussed including time-dependent and nonlinear generators. Further topics treated are a generalized H-theorem, quantum detailed balance and return to equilibrium, discrete quantum Boltzmann equation, nonlinear Schr??dinger equation, spin relaxation by spin waves, entropy production and its generalization by a measure of irreversibiblity |
