Publication | Singapore, 1. Imprint: Springer
2. Springer Nature Singapore, 2024. |
Description | XIV, 278 p. 118 illus., 90 illus. in color : online resource |
Abstract Note | This book highlights the advances made in the field of atomic and molecular collisions both in the experimental and theoretical fronts. The study of the collision of charged particles with neutral target atoms or molecules started many decades ago. The charged particles mostly include electrons and fast heavy ions. This book discusses basic research in atomic molecular collision physics along with some of the important applications in other branches of physics and peripheral fields, such as plasma physics, radiobiology, astrophysics, nanosciences, antimatter physics, and surface science. The complexity of the target systems led to the need for more sophisticated experimental tools as well as advanced theoretical models. Since the last decade, a major focus has been to investigate the behavior of biomolecules (such as nucleobases) and water when irradiated with protons and heavy ions due its applications toward hadron therapy for cancer and radiobiology in general. The collisions with polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons find applications toward astrochemistry that take place in the interstellar medium, solar wind as well as UV plasmonic devices. It has been proposed that the collective excitation in these molecules plays a major role in these applications. This book presents details about the advances made and the challenges faced in both experimental and theoretical front for studying the atomic collisions including these aspects. The book can be used as a reference for researchers, professionals, and also students. The recent advances in the sophisticated experimental tools for various types of experiments as well as the progress in the experimental methodologies are addressed along with the advancement in the theoretical front |

Author(s) | Stenzel, Olaf |
Publication | Cham, 1. Imprint: Springer
2. Springer International Publishing, 2024. |
Description | XXVIII, 438 p. 149 illus., 92 illus. in color : online resource |
Abstract Note | This book serves as a comprehensive guide to the physics of thin-film optical spectra, bridging the gap between fundamental physics courses, such as optics, electrodynamics, quantum mechanics, and solid-state physics, and the highly specialized literature on the spectroscopy, design, and application of optical thin film coatings. It presumes a basic understanding from these courses and builds upon it. Starting from the fundamentals of physics, the book equips the reader with the ability to derive the theory of optical coatings and apply it to significant spectroscopic problems. It encompasses both classical and semiclassical approaches. The topics covered range from classical optical coatings in various spectral regions to more specialized areas such as rugate filters and ultrafast mirrors. The expanded and updated third edition places a stronger emphasis on basic physical modeling aspects and updates the description of nonlinear coating properties. Additionally, it includes an expanded collection of problems with detailed solutions and explanations, enhancing the reader???s understanding and application of the concepts |

Title | Raman Spectroscopy : Advances and Applications |
Author(s) | Singh, Dheeraj Kumar;Kumar Mishra, Ashish;Materny, Arnulf |
Publication | Singapore, 1. Imprint: Springer
2. Springer Nature Singapore, 2024. |
Description | XIX, 375 p. 182 illus., 166 illus. in color : online resource |
Abstract Note | This book highlights recent advances of spectroscopic techniques based on Raman scattering. Different applications are introduced that serve as examples for the versatile use of Raman techniques. Raman spectroscopy is a marker free technique, which is capable of yielding detailed information about molecular systems in a non-destructive way. This makes it a valuable tool for, e.g., material science or medical research. The access to vibrational energy and dynamics yields fundamental insights into static and dynamical structural properties of molecules being influenced by and influencing their material science or medical research environment. The better understanding of the basic building blocks of materials helps to improve the functionality in various applications. Raman spectroscopy has become a truly interdisciplinary research tool, and the ongoing development of techniques makes it attractive for growing variety of scientific and industrial applications, which will be demonstrated in the book. While the ???classical??? linear spontaneous Raman spectroscopy is restricted in its applicability due to low signal intensities or the excitation of strong fluorescence background, new techniques have helped to overcome such problems. Examples, presented in the book, are surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS), and various associated techniques are used to drastically increase signal intensity, confocal, and tip-enhanced Raman scattering (TERS) allowing for high and even sub-diffraction limited spatial resolutions, coherent anti-Stokes Raman scattering (CARS) avoiding fluorescence background and allowing for time-resolved observations of vibrational dynamics, or hyper- and resonance Raman scattering influencing the scattering based on electronic resonances, etc |

Title | Computational Simulation in Nanophotonics and Spectroscopy |
Author(s) | Sun, Mengtao;Mu, Xijiao |
Publication | Singapore, 1. Imprint: Springer
2. Springer Nature Singapore, 2023. |
Description | VIII, 123 p. 15 illus., 13 illus. in color : online resource |
Abstract Note | Nanophotonics and spectroscopy has advanced rapidly in recent years. Experimental research on nanophotonics is very active. In addition to experimental research on the principles and applications of nanophotonics, computational simulation research on its various physical mechanisms and phenomena is equally important. The simulation of the optical properties of molecules or crystals, such as electronic spectra (absorption and emission spectra, etc.) and vibrational spectroscopy has extraordinary guiding significance for experiments. The current computational simulation technology can also explain and analyze the physical mechanisms behind phenomena. However, among the many computational simulation software programs available, the operation methods and application scenarios are different. The barrier for new users to conduct research with computational simulation is high. Even for researchers with some experience, it is not easy to develop a comprehensive understanding of the various software programs, keywords, programming languages and auxiliary programs. This book serves as an introductory book for beginners to get started with the technology, and a handbook for experienced readers to quickly look up for commands and script usage. It is a handy reference for graduate students and researchers engaged in the study of photonics and optics |
