Title | Cold Plasma in Nano-Matter Synthesis : Basic Principles and Practices |
Author(s) | Subrahmanyam, A |
Publication | Cham, 1. Imprint: Springer
2. Springer Nature Switzerland, 2024. |
Description | XIX, 372 p. 151 illus : online resource |
Abstract Note | This book describes the basic principles and techniques of cold plasma to synthesize nanomaterials, emphasizing the fundamentals. Nanotechnology has matured enough to make inroads into the industry. ???Quantum size effects??? is the basis of the exotic properties of nanomaterials. The shapes and the size distribution dictate the properties of the nano-matter. The demands of the synthesis technique are to produce nano-matter with uniform size, repeatable shapes, uniform size distribution, stability of the nanostructures (reaching thermodynamic equilibrium), reproducibility of the particle sizes, and reliability of the process. These demands can be met when the synthesis technique has precise control over the process parameters. Cold plasma techniques possess all the requirements of the needs of nanomaterial synthesis. The cold plasma, an evolving field, has been established to be the most powerful tool not only for micro-electronics (both in the deposition and etching) but in many areas like health care, medicine, agriculture, food processing, etc. The book???s primary emphasis is to explain the basic principles and concepts of cold plasma in nanomaterial synthesis. The target audience is undergraduate and graduate students learning nanomaterial synthesis and plasma technology. It is hoped that this book also is a good source of reference for practicing scientists and engineers involved in synthesizing nanomaterials and nanostructures in the industry |

Publication | Cham, 1. Imprint: Springer
2. Springer Nature Switzerland, 2024. |
Description | XVII, 236 p. 125 illus., 97 illus. in color : online resource |
Abstract Note | This book provides a comprehensive analysis of quantum-confined semiconductor lasers, focusing on quantum dot lasers (QDLs) and interband quantum cascade lasers (ICLs). Through theoretical and numerical exploration, the author scrutinizes the amplitude and frequency noise spectra, studies the dynamics induced by delayed optical reinjection, and investigates the generation of squeezed states for both laser types. Notably, his predictions align with experimental results, demonstrating the robustness of this approach. Structured meticulously, the book begins with an overview of QDL and ICL technology, followed by in-depth chapters on classical noise and dynamics, and quantum aspects, particularly the generation of squeezed states. Clearly written, the text strikes a balance between words and equations, maintaining accessibility without sacrificing depth. It includes an extensive bibliography, a testament to the thoroughness of the research and a useful feature for all newcomers to the field |

Title | Quantum Transport in Interacting Nanojunctions : A Density Matrix Approach |
Author(s) | Donarini, Andrea;Grifoni, Milena |
Publication | Cham, 1. Imprint: Springer
2. Springer International Publishing, 2024. |
Description | XX, 574 p. 138 illus., 133 illus. in color : online resource |
Abstract Note | This book serves as an introduction to the growing field of quantum many-body transport in interacting nanojunctions. It delves into a theoretical approach based on a general density-matrix formulation for open quantum systems. In the book, relevant transport observables, like the current or its higher order cumulants, are obtained by evaluating quantum statistical averages. This approach requires the knowledge of the reduced density matrix of the interacting nanosystems. The formulation for addressing transport problems, based on the evolution of the reduced density operator in Liouville space, is highly versatile. It enables the treatment of charge and spin transport across various realistic nanostructures. Topics encompass standard Coulomb blockade, cotunneling phenomena in quantum dots, vibrational and Franck-Condon effects in molecular junctions, as well as many-body interference observed in double quantum dots or carbon nanotubes. Derived from lectures tailored for graduate and advanced students at the University of Regensburg in Germany, this book is enriched with exercises and step-by-step derivations |

Title | Piezotronics and Piezo-Phototronics : Applications to Third-Generation Semiconductors |
Author(s) | Wang, Zhong Lin;Zhang, Yan;Hu, Weiguo |
Publication | Cham, 1. Imprint: Springer
2. Springer Nature Switzerland, 2023. |
Description | XIV, 570 p. 306 illus., 302 illus. in color : online resource |
Abstract Note | Co-authored by the discoverer of the piezotronic effect, this book is a fundamental and comprehensive survey of piezotronics and piezo-phototronics. Piezotronics is a term broadly applied to devices fabricated using the piezopotential as a ???gate??? voltage to tune/control charge carrier transport at a contact or junction. The piezo-phototronic effect describes the use of the piezopotential to control the carrier generation, transport, separation and/or recombination for improving the performance of optoelectronic devices. The book first introduces the theory of the piezotronic effect and its applications in transistors, sensors, and catalysis. Subsequent chapters comprehensively cover the fundamentals of the piezo-phototronic effect and its impacts on photon sensors, solar cells, and LEDs. The updated and significantly expanded second edition covers the most recent advances and breakthroughs in this field over the last decade ??? gas, chemical, and biological nanosensors; quantumdots, wells, and wires; piezocatalysis; the piezo-photonic effect; and the pyro-phototronic effect. This seminal book serves as a basic text for scientists and students in the field of piezotronic devices and third-generation semiconductors |

Title | Quantum Dot Lasers on Silicon : Nonlinear Properties, Dynamics, and Applications |
Author(s) | Dong, Bozhang |
Publication | Cham, 1. Imprint: Springer
2. Springer International Publishing, 2023. |
Description | XX, 189 p. 103 illus., 83 illus. in color : online resource |
Abstract Note | This book provides guidelines and design rules for developing high-performance, low-cost, and energy-efficient quantum-dot (QD) lasers for silicon photonic integrated circuits (PIC), optical frequency comb generation, and quantum information systems. To this end, the nonlinear properties and dynamics of QD lasers on silicon are investigated in depth by both theoretical analysis and experiment. This book focuses on four issues encountered in developing silicon PIC: (1) The instability of laser emission caused by the chip-scale back-reflection. (2) The degradation of laser performance at a high operating temperature. (3) The limited phase noise level and optical bandwidth of the laser, which are the bottlenecks for further increasing the transmission capacity. (4) The need for a platform with rich optical nonlinearities for future integrated quantum technologies. The promising results presented in each of these areas will enable scientists, researchers, and engineers to make an informed judgment when utilizing the QD laser for applications ranging from classical silicon PIC to integrated quantum technologies |
