Title | Radionanomedicine : Combined Nuclear and Nanomedicine |
Author(s) | Lee, Dong Soo |
Publication | Cham, Springer International Publishing, 2018. |
Description | XXIV, 446 p. 118 illus., 104 illus. in color : online resource |
Abstract Note | This book describes radionanomedicine as an integrated medicine using exogenous and endogenous??This book describes radionanomedicine as an integrated approach that uses exogenous and endogenous nanomaterials for in vivo and human applications. It comprehensively explains radionanomedicine comprising nuclear and nanomedicine, demonstrating that it is more than radionanodrugs and that radionanomedicine also takes advantage of nuclear medicine using trace technology, in which miniscule amounts of materials and tracer kinetic elucidate in vivo biodistribution. It also discusses exogenous nanomaterials such as inorganic silica, iron oxide, upconversion nanoparticles and quantum dots or organic liposomes labelled with radioisotopes, and radionanomaterials used for targeted delivery and imaging for theranostic purposes. Further, it examines endogenous nanomaterials i.e. extracellular vesicles labelled with radioisotopes, known as radiolabelled extracellular vesicles, as well as positron emission tomography (PET) and single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT), which elucidate the biodistribution and potential for therapeutic success |

Title | Life Sciences and Radiation : Accomplishments and Future Directions |
Author(s) | Kiefer, J??rgen |
Publication | Berlin, Heidelberg, Springer Berlin Heidelberg, 2004. |
Description | XIV, 285 p : online resource |
Abstract Note | Scope and ideas of the workshop The workshop which took place at the University of Giessen from Oct. 3 to Oct. 7, 2002 and whose proceedings are collected in this volume started from the idea to convene a number of scientists with the aim to outline their ???visions??? for the future of radiation research on the basis of their expertise. As radiation research is a very wide field restrictions were unavoidable. It was decided to concentrate this time mainly on molecular and cellular biology because it was felt that here action is par-ticularly needed. This did not exclude contributions from neighbouring fields as may be seen from the table of contents. It was clearly not planned to have a c- prehensive account of the present scientif fic achievements but the results presented should only serve as a starting point for the discussion of future lines of research, with the emphasis on the ???outreach??? to other parts of life sciences. If you are interested in the future ask the young ??? we attempted, therefore, to invite mainly younger colleagues (with a few exceptions) who had, however, already left their marks in the field. They were asked to describe what they felt is important in radiation research and may have significant influences on other branches of life sciences. They were given the task to demonstrate what is lost for science ???if we do no longer exist??? |

Title | The Physics of Multiply and Highly Charged Ions : Volume 1: Sources, Applications and Fundamental Processes |
Author(s) | Currell, F.J |
Publication | Dordrecht, Springer Netherlands, 2003. |
Description | XXXIV, 389 p. 119 illus : online resource |
Abstract Note | It is arguable that most of chemistry and a large portion of atomic physics is concemed with the behaviour of the 92 naturally occurring elements in each of 3 charge states (+1, 0, -1); 276 distinct species. The world of multiply and highly charged ions provides a further 4186 species for us to study. Over 15 times as many! It is the nature of human beings to explore the unknown. This nature is par?? ticularly strong in physicists although this may not be readily apparent because theses explorations are undertaken in somewhat abstract 'spaces'. It is, then, no surprise that we have begun to explore the realm of multiply and highly charged ions. Over the past few decades, a consistent1y high quality body of work has emerged as the fruits of this exploration. This intemationally based subject, pursued in universities and research laboratories worldwide, has ex?? panded beyond its roots in atomic physics. We now see it embracing elements of surface science, nuclear physics and plasma physics as well as drawing on a wide range of technologies. This speciality offers new tests of some of our most fundamental ideas in physics and simultaneously new medical cures, new ways of fabricating electronic gadgets, a major hope for clean sustainable energy and explanations for astrophysical phenomena. It is both a deeply fundamental and a widely applicable area of investigation |

Title | Radiotherapy and Brachytherapy |
Author(s) | Lemoigne, Yves;Caner, Alessandra |
Publication | Dordrecht, Springer Netherlands, 2009. |
Description | XVIII, 250 p : online resource |
Abstract Note | This book reports the majority of lectures given during the NATO Advanced Study Institute ASI-982996, which was held at the European Scientific Institute of Archamps (ESI, Archamps ??? France) from November 15 to November 27, 2007. The ASI course was structured in two parts: the first was dedicated to what is often called ???teletherapy???, i. e. radiotherapy with external beams, while the second focused on internal radiotherapy, also called ???brachytherapy??? or ???curietherapy??? in honour of Madame Curie who initiated the technique about a century ago. This ASI took place after the European School of Medical Physics, which devoted a 3 week period to medical imaging, a subject complementary to the topics of this book. Courses devoted to nuclear medicine and digital imaging techniques are collected in two volumes of the NATO Science Series entitled ???Physics for Medical Imaging Applications??? (ISBN 978-1-4020-5650-5) and ???Molecular imaging: computer reconstruction and practice??? (ISBN 978-1-4020- 8751-6). Every year in autumn ESI organises the European School of Medical Physics, which covers a large spectrum of topics ranging from Medical Imaging to Radiotherapy, over a period of 5 weeks. Thanks to the Cooperative Science and Technology sub-programme of the NATO Science Division, weeks four and five were replaced this year by the ASI course dedicated to ???Physics of Modern Radiotherapy & Brachytherapy???. This allowed the participation of experts and students from 20 different countries, with diverse cultural background and p- fessional experience |

Title | Numerical and Practical Exercises in Thermoluminescence |
Author(s) | Pagonis, Vasilis;Kitis, George;Furetta, Claudio |
Publication | New York, NY, Springer New York, 2006. |
Description | XXII, 210 p. 110 illus : online resource |
Abstract Note | Thermoluminescence (TL) is a well-established technique widely used in dosimetric and dating applications. Although several excellent reference books exist which document both the theoretical and experimental aspects of TL, there is a general lack of books that deal with specific numerical and practical aspects of analyzing TL data. Many times the practical details of analyzing numerical TL glow curves and of applying theoretical models are difficult to find in the published literature. Numerical and Practical Exercises in Thermoluminescence provides a practical guide for both established researchers and for new graduate students entering the field of TL, and is intended to be used in conjunction with and as a practical supplement to standard textbooks in the field |

Title | Radiation Damage in Biomolecular Systems |
Author(s) | Garc??a G??mez-Tejedor, Gustavo;Fuss, Martina Christina |
Publication | Dordrecht, Springer Netherlands, 2012. |
Description | XIV, 510 p : online resource |
Abstract Note | Since the discovery of X-rays and radioactivity, ionizing radiations have been widely applied in medicine both for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes. The risks associated with radiation exposure and handling led to the parallel development of the field of radiation protection. Pioneering experiments done by Sanche and co-workers in 2000 showed that low-energy secondary electrons, which are abundantly generated along radiation tracks, are primarily responsible for radiation damage through successive interactions with the molecular constituents of the medium. Apart from ionizing processes, which are usually related to radiation damage, below the ionization level low-energy electrons can induce molecular fragmentation via dissociative processes such as internal excitation and electron attachment. This prompted collaborative projects between different research groups from European countries together with other specialists from Canada,?? the USA and Australia. This book??summarizes the advances achieved by these research groups after more than ten years of studies on radiation damage in biomolecular systems. The book will be of interest to researchers and advanced students in the fields of radiation physics, chemistry and radiation therapy |
