TitleSolid-State Laser Engineering
Author(s)Koechner, Walter
PublicationNew York, NY, Springer New York, 2006.
DescriptionXVI, 750 p : online resource
Abstract NoteWritten from an industrial perspective, Solid-State Laser Engineering discusses in detail the characteristics, design, construction, and performance of solid-state lasers. Emphasis is placed on engineering and practical considerations; phenomenological aspects using models are preferred to abstract mathematical derivations. Since its first edition almost 30 years ago this book has become the standard in the field of solid-state lasers for scientists, engineers and graduate students. This new edition has been extensively revised and updated to account for recent developments in the areas of diode-laser pumping, laser materials and nonlinear crystals. Completely new sections have been added dealing with frequency control, the theory of mode-locking, femto second lasers, high efficiency harmonic generation, passive and acousto-optic Q-switching, semiconductor saturable absorber mirrors (SESAM) and peridically poled nonlinear crystals

TitleSolid-State Laser Engineering
Author(s)Koechner, Walter
PublicationNew York, NY, Springer New York, 1976.
DescriptionXI, 620 p. 102 illus. in color : online resource
Abstract NoteThe first decade of solid-state Iaser technology has seen the development of an enormous number of lasing materials and a !arge variety of interesting design concepts. However, in recent years the technology has matured to a point where solid-state Iasers have reached a plateau in their development. To a major extent, the growth in importance of solid-state Iasers for industrial and military applications and as a general research tool is due to the improvement in reliability and maintainability of these systems. The practical advances of these devices had several major consequences: A wealth of applications for solid-state Iasers has emerged in materials processing, holography, rangefinding, target illumination and designation, satellite and lunar ranging, thermonuclear fusion, plasma experiments, and in general for scientific work requiring high power densities. Emphasis has shifted from research and innovation to cost reduction and system improve?? ment. As a result, a standardization of the system designs occurred. This book, written from an industrial vantage-point, provides a detailed discussion of solid-state Iasers, their characteristics, design and construction, and practical problems. The title Solid-State Laser Engineering is chosen so as to convey the emphasis which is placed on engineering and practical considerations

TitleSolid-State Laser Engineering
Author(s)Koechner, Walter
PublicationBerlin, Heidelberg, Springer Berlin Heidelberg, 1992.
DescriptionXIII, 635 p. 167 illus : online resource
Abstract NoteThis book is written from an industrial perspective and provides a detailed discussion of solid-state lasers, their characteristics, design and construction. Emphasis is placed on engineering and practical considerations. The book is aimed mainly at the practicing scientist or engineer who is interested in the design or use of solid-state lasers, but the comprehensive treatment of the subject will make the work useful also to students of laser physics who seek to supplement their theoretical knowledge with engineering information. In order to present the subject as clearly as possible, phenomenological descriptions using models have been used rather than abstract mathematical descriptions. This results in a simplified presentation. The descriptions are enhanced by the inclusion of numerical and technical data, tables and graphs. This new edition has been updated and revised to take account of important new developments, concepts, and technologies that have emerged since the publication of the first and second editions
