Title | Building earth observation cameras |
Author(s) | George Joseph |
Publication | Boca Raton, CRC Press, 2015. |
Description | xvii, 350p. |
Abstract Note | Building Earth Observation Cameras discusses the science and technology of building an electro-optical imaging system for a space platform from concept to space qualification and in-orbit evaluation. The book provides a broad overview of various Earth imaging systems with specific examples illustrating the design and development issues that impacted the Indian Remote Sensing Satellite (IRS) cameras, and is based on the actual experience of the author, who was intimately involved with the development of cameras for the IRS program.
It equips imaging system project managers, scholars, and researchers with the ability to look deeper into the systems that they are developing, and arms application scientists who use satellite imagery with a greater understanding of the technical aspects and terminology used in defining the performance of the image system. The text traces the historical development of imaging systems, reviews the evolution of Earth observation systems from a global perspective, and examines future trends. |

Title | Group theory for the standard model of particle physics and beyond |
Author(s) | Ken J. Barnes |
Publication | Boca Raton, CRC Press, 2010. |
Description | xiii, 241p. |
Series | (Series in High Energy Physics, Cosmology and Gravitation) |
Abstract Note | Based on the authorâs well-established courses, Group Theory for the Standard Model of Particle Physics and Beyond explores the use of symmetries through descriptions of the techniques of Lie groups and Lie algebras. The text develops the models, theoretical framework, and mathematical tools to understand these symmetries.
After linking symmetries with conservation laws, the book works through the mathematics of angular momentum and extends operators and functions of classical mechanics to quantum mechanics. It then covers the mathematical framework for special relativity and the internal symmetries of the standard model of elementary particle physics. In the chapter on Noetherâs theorem, the author explains how Lagrangian formalism provides a natural framework for the quantum mechanical interpretation of symmetry principles. He then examines electromagnetic, weak, and strong interactions; spontaneous symmetry breaking; the elusive Higgs boson; and supersymmetry. He also introduces new techniques based on extending spaceâtime into dimensions described by anticommuting coordinates.
Designed for graduate and advanced undergraduate students in physics, this text provides succinct yet complete coverage of the group theory of the symmetries of the standard model of elementary particle physics. It will help students understand current knowledge about the standard model as well as the physics that potentially lies beyond the standard model. |

Title | Zeldovich: Reminiscences |
Author(s) | R. A. Sunyaev (ed.) |
Publication | Boca Raton, CRC Press, 2004. |
Description | xxv, 360p. |
Abstract Note | Ya. B. Zeldovich was certainly one of the greatest physicists and cosmologists of the 20th century. This volume presents reminiscences of this exemplary academician, providing biographical and historical insights from colleagues who knew him best. Zeldovich's achievements are outlined, including those in relativistic astrophysics and cosmology, the theory of combustion, and the Soviet atomic and hydrogen bomb projects. It contains incisive commentary on Soviet science and the impact that Zeldovich had on future generations, not only in the former USSR but throughout the international physics community. Zeldovich: Reminiscences is ideal for students of astrophysics and the history of science. |
