TitleOrigin of mass: Elementary Particles and Fundamental Symmetries
Author(s)John Iliopoulos
PublicationOxford University Press 2017.
Abstract NoteWhy do most ‘elementary particles’ which form the constituents of all matter have a non-zero mass? Strange question, apparently in contradiction with our physical intuition. In this little book we attempt to explain that the question is far from being trivial and that the answer can be found in the recent discovery of a new particle in the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN near Geneva. We offer the reader a guided tour, starting from the tiny fractions of a second after the Big Bang, when all particles have been created, to the present experiments we perform in our laboratories. We show that the Universe follows a profound symmetry principle which seems to determine the structure of the world.

TitleSymmetries in quantum mechanics: From Angular Momentum to Supersymmetry
Author(s)Masud Chaichian;Rolf Hagedorn
PublicationNew York, Taylor and Francis, 1994.
Descriptionxiv, 303p.
Series(Graduate Student Series in Physics)
Abstract NoteSymmetries in Quantum Mechanics: From Angular Momentum to Supersymmetry (PBK) provides a thorough, didactic exposition of the role of symmetry, particularly rotational symmetry, in quantum mechanics. The bulk of the book covers the description of rotations (geometrically and group-theoretically) and their representations, and the quantum theory of angular momentum. Later chapters introduce more advanced topics such as relativistic theory, supersymmetry, anyons, fractional spin, and statistics. With clear, in-depth explanations, the book is ideal for use as a course text for postgraduate and advanced undergraduate students in physics and those specializing in theoretical physics. It is also useful for researchers looking for an accessible introduction to this important area of quantum theory.

TitleDynamical symmetry
Author(s)Carl E Wulfman
PublicationNew Jersey, World Scientific Publishing Co. Pvt. Ltd., 2010.
Descriptionxx, 437p.
Abstract NoteDynamical Symmetry introduces the reader to Sophus Lie's discoveries of the connections between differential equations and continuous groups that underlie this observation. It develops and applies the mathematical relations between dynamics and geometry that result. Systematic methods for uncovering dynamical symmetries are described, and put to use. Much material in the book is new and some has only recently appeared in research journals.
