| Title | Galaxy Interactions at Low and High Redshift : Proceedings of the 186th Symposium of the International Astronomical Union , held at Kyoto, Japan, 26???30 August 1997 |
| Author(s) | Barnes, J.E;Sanders, D.B |
| Publication | Dordrecht, Springer Netherlands, 1999. |
| Description | XXVI, 519 p : online resource |
| Abstract Note | The 186th IAU Symposium came at an exciting and perhaps even historic time for extragalactic astronomy. New spacecraft observations plumbed the depths of the Universe out to redshifts of five, while revealing astounding details of nearby galaxies and AGN at intermediate redshifts. Theoretical ideas on structure formation, together with results from detailed numerical modeling, created a comprehensive framework for modeling the formation of galaxies and the transformation of galaxies by interactions and mergers. All these strands came together at the Symposium, as participants glimpsed a developing synthesis highlighting galactic encounters and their role in the history of the Universe. This volume offers professional astronomers, including PhD students, an overview of the rapidly advancing subject of galaxy interactions at low and high redshifts |

| Title | Galaxies: Interactions and Induced Star Formation : Saas-Fee Advanced Course 26. Lecture Notes 1996 Swiss Society for Astrophysics and Astronomy |
| Author(s) | Kennicutt Jr., Robert C;Schweizer, F;Barnes, J.E;Friedli, D;Martinet, L;Pfenniger, D |
| Publication | Berlin, Heidelberg, Springer Berlin Heidelberg, 1998. |
| Description | XIV, 405 p : online resource |
| Abstract Note | This volume contains the written versions of the lectures given at the 26th course of the renowned Saas-Fee series. The book represents a comprehensive and up-to-date review of the field of galaxy interaction. Nowadays, galaxies are no longer seen as immutable objects: they evolve, interact, merge, blaze, and reshape. Dynamic forces can induce powerful stellar activity able to transform the matter composition and morphology of galaxies. The lectures included in this book aim at a better understanding of these remarkable and fascinating phenomena. Though the book is intended for graduate students and young post-docs in astrophysics, it contains more advanced and original material, as well as historical perspectives, which will be of great interest to experts and astronomy teachers also |
