Author(s) | Yang, Yang;Li, Gang |
Publication | Berlin, Heidelberg, Springer Berlin Heidelberg, 2015. |
Description | XVII, 417 p. 216 illus., 63 illus. in color : online resource |
Abstract Note | This book presents an important technique to process organic photovoltaic devices. The basics, materials aspects and manufacturing of photovoltaic devices with solution processing are explained. Solution processable organic solar cells - polymer or solution processable small molecules - have the potential to significantly reduce the costs for solar electricity and energy payback time due to the low material costs for the cells, low cost and fast fabrication processes (ambient, roll-to-roll), high material utilization etc. In addition, organic photovoltaics (OPV) also provides attractive properties like flexibility, colorful displays and transparency which could open new market opportunities. The material and device innovations lead to improved efficiency by 8% for organic photovoltaic solar cells, compared to 4% in 2005. Both academic and industry research have significant interest in the development of this technology. This book gives an overview of the booming technology, focusing on the solution process for organic solar cells and provides a state-of-the-art report of the latest developments. World class experts cover fundamental, materials, devices and manufacturing technology of OPV technology |

Title | Quantitative Recombination and Transport Properties in Silicon from Dynamic Luminescence |
Author(s) | Giesecke, Johannes |
Publication | Cham, Springer International Publishing, 2014. |
Description | XXI, 284 p. 86 illus., 63 illus. in color : online resource |
Abstract Note | Harmonically modulated luminescence combines the advantages of highly sensitive luminescence metrology with an immediate dynamic access to carrier lifetime in semiconductors at a minimum of required a priori information. The present work covers theoretical, conceptual, and experimental advances of the harmonically modulated luminescence technique. Theoretical constraints of dynamic carrier lifetime techniques are rigorously elaborated, including the proof of their differential nature and their characteristics at nonuniform spatial distributions of recombination rate. The pathway toward a unified, reliable, and versatile harmonically modulated carrier lifetime metrology is delineated - covering the entire solar cell production chain from bare ingots to finished solar cells. Accurate access to miscellaneous relevant recombination and transport properties via harmonically modulated luminescence is demonstrated and experimentally validated, embracing injection-dependent carrier lifetimes at extremely low injection conditions, a spatially resolved carrier lifetime calibration of luminescence images, and accurate approaches to both net dopant concentration and minority carrier mobility |

Title | Three Dimensional Solar Cells Based on Optical Confinement Geometries |
Author(s) | Li, Yuan |
Publication | New York, NY, Springer New York, 2013. |
Description | XXX, 154 p : online resource |
Abstract Note | Three dimensional (3D) optical geometries are becoming more common in the literature and lexicon of solar cells. Three Dimensional Solar Cells Based on Optical Confinement Geometries describes and reveals the basic operational nuances of 3D photovoltaics using three standard tools: Equivalent Circuit Models, Ray Tracing Optics in the Cavity, and Absorber Spectral Response. These tools aide in understanding experimental absorption profile and device parameters including Jsc, Voc, Fill Factor, and EQE. These methods also apply to individual optical confinement geometry device, integrated optical confinement geometry device, and hybrid optical confinement geometry device. Additionally, this book discusses the importance of these methods in achieving the goal of high efficiency solar cells and suggests a potential application in large-scale photovoltaics businesses, like solar farms |

Title | Modelling and Controlling Hydropower Plants |
Author(s) | Munoz-Hernandez, German Ardul;Mansoor, Sa'ad Petrous;Jones, Dewi Ieuan |
Publication | London, Springer London, 2013. |
Description | XVIII, 302 p : online resource |
Abstract Note | Hydroelectric power stations are a major source of electricity around the world; understanding their dynamics is crucial to achieving good performance. ??Modelling and Controlling Hydropower Plants discusses practical and well-documented cases of modelling and controlling hydropower station modelling and control, focussing on a pumped storage scheme based in Dinorwig, North Wales.?? Single-input-single-output and multiple-input-multiple-output models, which cover the linear and nonlinear characteristics of pump-storage hydroelectric power stations, are reviewed. The most important dynamic features are discussed, and the verification of these models by hardware in the loop simulation is described. To show how the performance of a pump-storage hydroelectric power station can be improved, classical and modern controllers are applied to simulated models of the Dinorwig power plant. These include PID, fuzzy approximation, feed-forward and model-based predictive control with linear and hybrid prediction models. Modelling and Controlling Hydropower Plants will be of value to control engineers working in industry. In addition, the theoretical treatment of modern and classic controllers will be useful for academic researchers and graduate students in control and power engineering. Advances in Industrial Control aims to report and encourage the transfer of technology in control engineering. The rapid development of control technology has an impact on all areas of the control discipline. The series offers an opportunity for researchers to present an extended exposition of new work in all aspects of industrial control |
