TitleAdvanced Optical Imaging Theory
Author(s)Gu, Min
PublicationBerlin, Heidelberg, Springer Berlin Heidelberg, 2000.
DescriptionXII, 214 p : online resource
Abstract NoteOptical microscopy and associated technologies advanced quickly after the introduction of the laser. The techniques have stimulated further development of optical imaging theory, including 3-dimensional microscopy imaging theory in spatial and frequency domains, the theory of imaging with ultrashort-pulse beams and aberration theory for high-numerical-aperture objectives. This book introduces these new theories in terms of modern optical microscopy. It consists of seven chapters including an introduction. The chapters are organized to minimize cross-referencing. Comparisons with classical imaging theory are made when the new imaging theory is introduced. The book is intended for senior undergraduate students in courses on optoelectronics, optical engineering, photonics, biophotonics and applied physics, after they have completed modern optics or a similar subject. It is also a reference for other scientists interested in the field

TitleRadiotherapy and Brachytherapy
Author(s)Lemoigne, Yves;Caner, Alessandra
PublicationDordrecht, Springer Netherlands, 2009.
DescriptionXVIII, 250 p : online resource
Abstract NoteThis book reports the majority of lectures given during the NATO Advanced Study Institute ASI-982996, which was held at the European Scientific Institute of Archamps (ESI, Archamps ??? France) from November 15 to November 27, 2007. The ASI course was structured in two parts: the first was dedicated to what is often called ???teletherapy???, i. e. radiotherapy with external beams, while the second focused on internal radiotherapy, also called ???brachytherapy??? or ???curietherapy??? in honour of Madame Curie who initiated the technique about a century ago. This ASI took place after the European School of Medical Physics, which devoted a 3 week period to medical imaging, a subject complementary to the topics of this book. Courses devoted to nuclear medicine and digital imaging techniques are collected in two volumes of the NATO Science Series entitled ???Physics for Medical Imaging Applications??? (ISBN 978-1-4020-5650-5) and ???Molecular imaging: computer reconstruction and practice??? (ISBN 978-1-4020- 8751-6). Every year in autumn ESI organises the European School of Medical Physics, which covers a large spectrum of topics ranging from Medical Imaging to Radiotherapy, over a period of 5 weeks. Thanks to the Cooperative Science and Technology sub-programme of the NATO Science Division, weeks four and five were replaced this year by the ASI course dedicated to ???Physics of Modern Radiotherapy & Brachytherapy???. This allowed the participation of experts and students from 20 different countries, with diverse cultural background and p- fessional experience

TitleUltrashort Laser Pulses in Biology and Medicine
Author(s)Braun, Markus;Gilch, Peter;Zinth, Wolfgang
PublicationBerlin, Heidelberg, Springer Berlin Heidelberg, 2008.
DescriptionXV, 320 p : online resource
Abstract NoteSources of ultrashort laser pulses are nowadays commercially available and have entered many areas of research and development. This book gives an overview of biological and medical applications of these laser pulses. The briefness of these laser pulses permits the tracing of the fastest processes in photo-active bio-systems, which is one focus of the book. The other focus is applications that rely on the high peak intensity of ultrashort laser pulses. Examples covered span non-linear imaging techniques, optical tomography, and laser surgery

TitleMagnetic Particle Imaging : A Novel SPIO Nanoparticle Imaging Technique
Author(s)Buzug, Thorsten M;Borgert, J??rn
PublicationBerlin, Heidelberg, Springer Berlin Heidelberg, 2012.
DescriptionXIV, 386 p : online resource
Abstract NoteMagnetic Particle Imaging (MPI) is a novel imaging modality. In MPI superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles are used as tracer materials. The volume is the proceeding of the 2nd international workshop on magnetic particle imaging (IWMPI). The workshop aims at covering the status and recent developments of both, the instrumentation and the tracer material, as each of them is equally important in designing a well performing MPI. For instance, the current state of the art in magnetic coil design for MPI is discussed. With a new symmetrical arrangement of coils, a field-free line (FFL) can be produced that promises a significantly higher sensitivity compared with the standard arrangement for a FFP. Furthermore, the workshop aims at presenting results from phantom and pre-clinical studies

PublicationBerlin, Heidelberg, Springer Berlin Heidelberg, 2006.
DescriptionX, 304 p. 179 illus : online resource
Abstract NotePixel detectors are a particularly important class of particle and radiation detection devices. They have an extremely broad spectrum of applications, ranging from high-energy physics to the photo cameras of everyday life. This book is a general purpose introduction into the fundamental principles of pixel detector technology and semiconductor-based hybrid pixel devices. Although these devices were developed for high-energy ionizing particles and radiation beyond visible light, they are finding new applications in many other areas. This book will therefore benefit all scientists and engineers working in any laboratory involved in developing or using particle detection
