TitleCoherent States and Their Applications : A Contemporary Panorama
Author(s)Antoine, Jean-Pierre;Bagarello, Fabio;Gazeau, Jean-Pierre
PublicationCham, Springer International Publishing, 2018.
DescriptionXII, 347 p. 13 illus., 11 illus. in color : online resource
Abstract NoteCoherent states (CS) were originally introduced in 1926 by Schr??dinger and rediscovered in the early 1960s in the context of laser physics. Since then, they have evolved into an extremely rich domain that pervades virtually every corner of physics, and have also given rise to a range of research topics in mathematics. The purpose of the 2016 CIRM conference was to bring together leading experts in the field with scientists interested in related topics, to jointly investigate their applications in physics, their various mathematical properties, and their generalizations in many directions. Instead of traditional proceedings, this book presents sixteen longer review-type contributions, which are the outcome of a collaborative effort by many conference participants, subsequently reviewed by independent experts. The book aptly illustrates the diversity of CS aspects, from purely mathematical topics to physical applications, including quantum gravity

TitleSpectral Action in Noncommutative Geometry
Author(s)Eckstein, Micha??;Iochum, Bruno
PublicationCham, Springer International Publishing, 2018.
DescriptionXIV, 155 p. 3 illus : online resource
Abstract NoteWhat is spectral action, how to compute it and what are the known examples? This book offers a guided tour through the mathematical habitat of noncommutative geometry ?? la Connes, deliberately unveiling the answers to these questions. After a brief preface flashing the panorama of the spectral approach, a concise primer on spectral triples is given. Chapter 2 is designed to serve as a toolkit for computations. The third chapter offers an in-depth view into the subtle links between the asymptotic expansions of traces of heat operators and meromorphic extensions of the associated spectral zeta functions. Chapter 4 studies the behaviour of the spectral action under fluctuations by gauge potentials. A subjective list of open problems in the field is spelled out in the fifth Chapter. The book concludes with an appendix including some auxiliary tools from geometry and analysis, along with examples of spectral geometries. The book serves both as a compendium for researchers in the domain of noncommutative geometry and an invitation to mathematical physicists looking for new concepts

TitleHarmonic Analysis and Representations of Semisimple Lie Groups : Lectures given at the NATO Advanced Study Institute on Representations of Lie Groups and Harmonic Analysis, held at Li??ge, Belgium, September 5???17, 1977
Author(s)Wolf, J.A;Cahen, M;de Wilde, M
PublicationDordrecht, Springer Netherlands, 1980.
DescriptionVIII, 496 p : online resource
Abstract NoteThis book presents the text of the lectures which were given at the NATO Advanced Study Institute on Representations of Lie groups and Harmonic Analysis which was held in Liege from September 5 to September 17, 1977. The general aim of this Summer School was to give a coordinated intro?? duction to the theory of representations of semisimple Lie groups and to non-commutative harmonic analysis on these groups, together with some glance at physical applications and at the related subject of random walks. As will appear to the reader, the order of the papers - which follows relatively closely the order of the lectures which were actually give- follows a logical pattern. The two first papers are introductory: the one by R. Blattner describes in a very progressive way a path going from standard Fourier analysis on IR" to non-commutative harmonic analysis on a locally compact group; the paper by J. Wolf describes the structure of semisimple Lie groups, the finite-dimensional representations of these groups and introduces basic facts about infinite-dimensional unitary representations. Two of the editors want to thank particularly these two lecturers who were very careful to pave the way for the later lectures. Both these chapters give also very useful guidelines to the relevant literature
