TitleAstrobiology : The Quest for the Conditions of Life
Author(s)Horneck, Gerda;Baumstark-Khan, Christa
PublicationBerlin, Heidelberg, Springer Berlin Heidelberg, 2002.
DescriptionXV, 411 p. 39 illus. in color : online resource
Abstract NoteHow did life originate in the universe? How did it all start after the creation of matter and the formation of elements in the stars? What are the pathways from the first organic molecules in space to the evolution of complex life forms on Earth and perhaps elsewhere? And how will it all end? The Universe itself sets the stage for the very interdisciplinary field of astrobiology that attempts to answer such questions, the central one being: What is the (cosmic) recipe for life? Currently there are only very few known elements in this vast mosaic. This book bridges a gap in the literature by bringing together leading specialists from different backgrounds who lecture on their fields, with close relevance to astrobiology, providing tutorial accounts that lead all the way to the forefront of research. The book will thus be useful for students, lecturers and reseachers alike

TitleNuclidic Masses : Proceedings of the Second International Conference on Nuclidic Masses, Vienna, Austria July 15???19, 1963
Author(s)Johnson, Walter H.Jr
PublicationVienna, Springer Vienna, 1964.
DescriptionVII, 474 p. 15 illus : online resource
Abstract NoteThe Second International Conference on Nuclidic Masses was held in Vienna, Austria, July 15-19, 1963, using facilities of the International Atomic Energy Agency. This was the third conference in the general area of nuclidic masses in recent years. The first, a symposium held at the Max Planck Institut fur Chemie in 1956, was international in character but not in name. The First International Conference on Nuclidic Masses was held at McMaster University in September of 1960 in conjunction with and shortly after the meeting of the General Assembly of the International Union of Pure and Applied Physics and the Kingston Conference on Nuclear Structure. The Second International Conference on Nuclidic Masses was held under the sponsorship of the International Union of Pure and Applied Physics and the Nuclear Science Committee of the National Academy of Sciences-National Research Council of the United States. Financial support for the conference came from the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization. The conference committee was made up of the following individuals: Chairman: J. H. E. MATTAUCH General Secretary: H. E. DUCKWORTH Local Secretary: F. P. VIEHBOCK w. W. BUECHNER B. GROSS E. R. COHEN M. J. HIGATSBERGER A. DE SHALIT A. O. C. NIER J. W. M. DuMoND H. H. STAUB B. S.
