Title | The Physics of Atoms and Quanta : Introduction to Experiments and Theory |
Author(s) | Haken, Hermann;Wolf, Hans Christoph |
Publication | Berlin, Heidelberg, Springer Berlin Heidelberg, 2000. |
Description | XX, 503 p. 3 illus. in color : online resource |
Abstract Note | The Physics of Atoms and Quanta is a thorough introduction to experiments and theory in this field. Every classical and modern aspect is covered and discussed in detail. As this text ends with the fundamentals of classical bonding, it leads into the second and more advanced book by the same authors entitled "Molecular Physics and Elements of Quantum Chemistry". This 6th edition includes new developments, such as new experiments on quantum entanglement, the Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen paradoxon, Bell's inequality, Schr??dinger's cat, and decoherence; the quantum computer, quantum information, Bose-Einstein-Condensation, and the atom laser are also discussed. Here, the student will find 170 problems and their solutions, which make this book a real study text |

Title | Molecular Physics and Elements of Quantum Chemistry : Introduction to Experiments and Theory |
Author(s) | Haken, Hermann;Wolf, Hans Christoph |
Publication | Berlin, Heidelberg, Springer Berlin Heidelberg, 2004. |
Description | XXII, 596 p : online resource |
Abstract Note | This textbook introduces the molecular physics and quantum chemistry needed to understand the physical properties of molecules and their chemical bonds. It follows the authors' earlier textbook "The Physics of Atoms and Quanta" and presents both experimental and theoretical fundamentals for students in physics and physical and theoretical chemistry. The new edition treats new developments in areas such as high-resolution two-photon spectroscopy, ultrashort pulse spectroscopy, photoelectron spectroscopy. Particular emphasis is laid on the optical investigation of single molecules in condensed phase. Finally, the developing field of molecular electronics is presented, including electroluminescence and light-emitting diodes |

Author(s) | Haken, Hermann;Wolf, Hans Christoph |
Publication | Berlin, Heidelberg, Springer Berlin Heidelberg, 2005. |
Description | XX, 520 p : online resource |
Abstract Note | The Physics of Atoms and Quanta is a thorough introduction to experiments and theory in this field. Every classical and modern aspect is included and discussed in detail. The new edition is completely revised, new sections on atoms in strong electric fields and high magnetic fields complete the comprehensive coverage of all topics related to atoms and quanta. All new developments, such as new experiments on quantum entanglement, the quantum computer, quantum information, the Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen paradoxon, Bell's inequality, Schr??dinger's cat, decoherence, Bose-Einstein-Condensation and the atom laser are discussed. Over 170 problems and their solutions help deepen the insight in this subject area and make this book a real study text. The second and more advanced book by the same authors entitled "Molecular Physics and Elements of Quantum Chemistry" is the completion of this unique textbook |

Title | Molecular Physics and Elements of Quantum Chemistry : Introduction to Experiments and Theory |
Author(s) | Haken, Hermann;Wolf, Hans Christoph |
Publication | Berlin, Heidelberg, Springer Berlin Heidelberg, 1995. |
Description | XVI, 407 p : online resource |
Abstract Note | This textbook is intended for use by students of physics, physical chemistry, and theoretical chemistry. The reader is presumed to have a basic knowledge of atomic and quantum physics at the level provided, for example, by the first few chapters in our book The Physics of Atoms and Quanta. The student of physics will find here material which should be included in the basic education of every physicist. This book should furthermore allow students to acquire an appreciation of the breadth and variety within the field of molecular physics and its future as a fascinating area of research. For the student of chemistry, the concepts introduced in this book will provide a theoretical framework for his or her field of study. With the help of these concepts, it is at least in principle possible to reduce the enormous body of empirical chemical knowledge to a few fundamental rules: those of quantum mechanics. In addition, modem physical methods whose fundamentals are introduced here are becoming increasingly important in chemistry and now represent indispensable tools for the chemist. As examples, we might mention the structural analysis of complex organic compounds, spectroscopic investigation of very rapid reaction processes or, as a practical application, the remote detection of pollutants in the air |
