TitleMethods of Quantization : Lectures Held at the 39. Universit??tswochen f??r Kern- und Teilchenphysik, Schladming, Austria
Author(s)Latal, Heimo;Schweiger, Wolfgang
PublicationBerlin, Heidelberg, Springer Berlin Heidelberg, 2001.
DescriptionXI, 228 p. 8 illus : online resource
Abstract NoteMost of our present understanding of the elementary building blocks of matter and the forces between them is based on the quantized version of the field theories which are locally symmetric under gauge transformations. The present set of lecture notes gives both a status report and a survey of recent advances for the most important quantization methods in the field theories for elementary particle physics. The first part of the book introduces light-cone quantization as an interesting alternative to the commonly used covariant perturbation theory and functional-integral methods. Next, a general formalism for quantizing systems with constraints, the projection-operator approach, is presented and structural aspects of the renormalization problem for gauge invariant field theories are discussed. Finally, the mathematics underlying the functional-integral quantization is reviewed. Suitable as a reference for researchers in the field, the book will prove particularly useful for lecturers and graduate students in search of additional reading beyond the standard texts on quantum field theory

TitleMatter Under Extreme Conditions : Proceedings of the 33. Internationale Universit??tswochen f??r Kern- und Teilchenphysik Schladming, Austria, 27 February ??? 5 March 1994
Author(s)Latal, Heimo;Schweiger, Wolfgang
PublicationBerlin, Heidelberg, Springer Berlin Heidelberg, 1994.
DescriptionIX, 246 p : online resource
Abstract NoteIn this volume seven leading theoreticians and experimenters review the origin of the asymmetry of matter and antimatter in the Big Bang, solar neutrinos, the physics of enormous densities and temperatures in stars and of immense magnetic fields around collapsed stars, strong electric fields in heavy ion collisions, and the extreme conditions in quark-gluon plasmas. The articles address nuclear and particle physicists, especially graduate students, but also astrophysicists and cosmologists, since they have to deal with events under the extreme physical conditions discussed here

TitleFields and Particles : Proceedings of the XXIX Int. Universit??tswochen f??r Kernphysik, Schladming, Austria, March 1990
Author(s)Mitter, Heinrich;Schweiger, Wolfgang
PublicationBerlin, Heidelberg, Springer Berlin Heidelberg, 1990.
DescriptionXI, 285 p : online resource
Abstract NoteThis volume contains the written versions of invited lectures presented at the 29th "Internationale Universitatswochen fiir Kernphysik" in Schladming, Aus?? tria, in March 1990. The generous support of our sponsors, the Austrian Ministry of Science and Research, the Government of Styria, and others, made it possible to invite expert lecturers. In choosing the topics of the course we have tried to select some of the currently most fiercely debated aspects of quantum field theory. It is a pleasure for us to thank all the speakers for their excellent presentations and their efforts in preparing the lecture notes. After the school the lecture notes were revised by the authors and partly rewritten ~n '!EX. We are also indebted to Mrs. Neuhold for the careful typing of those notes which we did not receive in '!EX. Graz, Austria H. Mitter July 1990 W.
