Title Theory of Hybrid Systems: Deterministic and Stochastic
Author(s) Alwan, Mohamad S;Liu, Xinzhi
Publication Singapore, Springer Singapore, 2018.
Description XVI, 241 p. 38 illus., 37 illus. in color : online resource
Abstract Note This book is the first to present the application of the hybrid system theory to systems with EPCA (equations with piecewise continuous arguments). The hybrid system paradigm is a valuable modeling tool for describing a wide range of realworld applications. Moreover, although new technology has produced, and continues to produce highly hierarchical sophisticated machinery that cannot be analyzed as a whole system, hybrid system representation can be used to reduce the structural complexity of these systems. That is to say, hybrid systems have become a modeling priority, which in turn has led to the creation of a promising research field with several application areas. As such, the book explores recent developments in the area of deterministic and stochastic hybrid systems using the Lyapunov and Razumikhin???Lyapunov methods to investigate the systems??? properties. It also describes properties such as stability, stabilization, reliable control, Hinfinity optimal control, inputtostate stability (ISS)/stabilization, state estimation, and largescale singularly perturbed systems

Title Bifurcation and Stability in Nonlinear Discrete Systems
Author(s) Luo, Albert C. J
Publication Singapore, Springer Singapore, 2020.
Description X, 313 p. 43 illus., 16 illus. in color : online resource
Abstract Note This book focuses on bifurcation and stability in nonlinear discrete systems, including monotonic and oscillatory stability. It presents the local monotonic and oscillatory stability and bifurcation of period1 fixedpoints on a specific eigenvector direction, and discusses the corresponding higherorder singularity of fixedpoints. Further, it explores the global analysis of monotonic and oscillatory stability of fixedpoints in 1dimensional discrete systems through 1dimensional polynomial discrete systems. Based on the YinYang theory of nonlinear discrete systems, the book also addresses the dynamics of forward and backward nonlinear discrete systems, and the existence conditions of fixedpoints in said systems. Lastly, in the context of local analysis, it describes the normal forms of nonlinear discrete systems and infinitefixedpoint discrete systems. Examining nonlinear discrete systems from various perspectives, the book helps readers gain a better understanding of the nonlinear dynamics of such systems

Title Bifurcation in Autonomous and Nonautonomous Differential Equations with Discontinuities
Author(s) Akhmet, Marat;Kashkynbayev, Ardak
Publication Singapore, Springer Singapore, 2017.
Description XI, 166 p. 31 illus., 26 illus. in color : online resource
Abstract Note This book is devoted to bifurcation theory for autonomous and nonautonomous differential equations with discontinuities of different types. That is, those with jumps present either in the righthandside or in trajectories or in the arguments of solutions of equations. The results obtained in this book can be applied to various fields such as neural networks, brain dynamics, mechanical systems, weather phenomena, population dynamics, etc. Without any doubt, bifurcation theory should be further developed to different types of differential equations. In this sense, the present book will be a leading one in this field. The reader will benefit from the recent results of the theory and will learn in the very concrete way how to apply this theory to differential equations with various types of discontinuity. Moreover, the reader will learn new ways to analyze nonautonomous bifurcation scenarios in these equations. The book will be of a big interest both for ??beginners and experts in the field. For the former group of specialists, that is, undergraduate and graduate students, the book will be useful since it provides a strong impression that bifurcation theory can be developed not only for discrete and continuous systems, but those which combine these systems in very different ways. The latter group of specialists will find in this book several powerful instruments developed for the theory of discontinuous dynamical systems with variable moments of impacts, differential equations with piecewise constant arguments of generalized type and Filippov systems. A significant benefit of the present book is expected to be for those who consider bifurcations in systems with impulses since they are presumably nonautonomous systems

Title Diagnosis and Robust Control of Complex Building Central Chilling Systems for Enhanced Energy Performance
Author(s) Gao, DianCe
Publication Singapore, Springer Singapore, 2019.
Description XX, 180 p. 99 illus., 91 illus. in color : online resource
Abstract Note This book discusses enhancing the overall energy performance of building central airconditioning systems through fault diagnosis and robust control strategies. Fault diagnosis strategies aim to determine the exact cause of problems and evaluate the energy impact on the system, while robust control strategies aim to manage chilled water systems to avoid the occurrence of low deltaT syndrome and deficit flow problems. Presenting the first academic study of the diagnostic method and control mechanism of ???small temperature difference syndrome???, the book describes the highly robust and adaptive faulttolerant control method developed to overcome the influences of external disturbance on the process control in practical applications. The diagnostic technology developed provides a predictive assessment of the energy dissipation effect of the fault. This book is a valuable reference resource for researchers and designers in the areas of building energy management and built environment control, as well as for senior undergraduate and graduate students

Title Control of Complex Systems
Author(s) Astr??m, Karl J;Albertos, Pedro;Blanke, Mogens;Isidori, Alberto;Schaufelberger, Walther;Sanz, Ricardo
Publication London, Springer London, 2001.
Description XII, 482 p : online resource
Abstract Note The world of artificial systems is reaching complexity levels that es?? cape human understanding. Surface traffic, electricity distribution, air?? planes, mobile communications, etc. , are examples that demonstrate that we are running into problems that are beyond classical scientific or engi?? neering knowledge. There is an ongoing worldwide effort to understand these systems and develop models that can capture its behavior. The reason for this work is clear, if our lack of understanding deepens, we will lose our capability to control these systems and make they behave as we want. Researchers from many different fields are trying to understand and develop theories for complex manmade systems. This book presents re?? search from the perspective of control and systems theory. The book has grown out of activities in the research program Control of Complex Systems (COSY). The program has been sponsored by the Eu?? ropean Science Foundation (ESF) which for 25 years has been one of the leading players in stimulating scientific research. ESF is a European asso?? ciation of more than 60 leading national science agencies spanning more than 20 countries. ESF covers has standing committees in Medical Sci?? ences, Life and Environmental Sciences, Physical and Engineering Sci?? ences, Humanities and Social Sciences. The COSY program was ESF's first activity in the Engineering Sciences. The program run for a period of five years starting January 1995

Title DelayCoupled Complex Systems : and Applications to Lasers
Author(s) Flunkert, Valentin
Publication Berlin, Heidelberg, Springer Berlin Heidelberg, 2011.
Description XIII, 180 p. 69 illus., 13 illus. in color : online resource
Abstract Note This thesis deals with the effects of timedelay in complex nonlinear systems and in particular with its applications in complex networks, and relates it to control theory and nonlinear optics. Delays arise naturally in networks of coupled systems due to finite signal propagation speeds and are thus a key issue in many areas of physics, biology, medicine, and technology. Synchronization phenomena in these networks play an important role, e.g., in the context of learning, cognitive and pathological states in the brain, for secure communication with chaotic lasers or gene regulation. The work includes both novel results on the control of complex dynamics by timedelayed feedback and new fundamental insights into the interplay of delay and synchronization. One of the most interesting results here is a solution to the problem of complete synchronization in general networks with large coupling delay, i.e., large distances between the nodes, by giving a universal classification of networks which has a wide range of interdisciplinary applications
