TitleFrom Twilight to Highlight: The Physics of Supernovae : Proceedings of the ESO/MPA/MPE Workshop Held at Garching, Germany, 29???31 July 2002
Author(s)Hillebrandt, Wolfgang;Leibundgut, Bruno
PublicationBerlin, Heidelberg, Springer Berlin Heidelberg, 2003.
DescriptionXVII, 416 p. 274 illus., 26 illus. in color : online resource
Abstract NoteSupernovae, their bearing on cosmology and their connection to gamma-ray bursts are now at the center of astrophysical research programs. This volume deals with astronomical observations of supernovae and their relation to nuclear and particle astrophysics. All known aspects of supernovae explosions are investigated in articles specifically written for researchers and advanced graduate students. It also includes recent numerical "experiments" related to the question of hydrodynamical instability in two and three dimensions and to problems concerning the complexity of radiation transport in the models. Other contributions discuss the possible energy sources needed to drive these powerful stellar explosions

TitleRelativistic Astrophysics and Cosmology ??? Einstein???s Legacy : Proceedings of the MPE/USM/MPA/ESO Joint Astronomy Conference Held in Munich, Germany, 7-11 November 2005
Author(s)Aschenbach, Bernd;Burwitz, Vadim;Hasinger, G??nther;Leibundgut, Bruno
PublicationBerlin, Heidelberg, Springer Berlin Heidelberg, 2007.
DescriptionXXXIV, 506 p. 35 illus : online resource
Abstract Note"Relativistic Astrophysics and Cosmology" have developed into important and fruitful research areas with a hitherto unprecented public interest. The year 2005, which marked the 100th anniversary of the 'annus mirabilis', that year in which Albert Einstein published three of his most important scientific papers, was the perfect opportunity to review and to present the current scientific understanding of relativistic topics including cosmological models, cosmology related measurements, the large scale properties of the Universe, dark matter and dark energy, the theory of gravity, black holes, theory and measurements, active galactic nuclei, clusters of galaxies, jets. Each of these subjects is addressed and the book represents a useful reference tool both for the expert and the new-comer in these fields
