Title | Mechanics and Physics of Precise Vacuum Mechanisms |
Author(s) | Deulin, E. A;Mikhailov, V. P;Panfilov, Yu V;Nevshupa, R. A |
Publication | Dordrecht, Springer Netherlands, 2010. |
Description | XIV, 234 p : online resource |
Abstract Note | In this book the Russian expertise in the field of the design of precise vacuum mechanics is summarized. A wide range of physical applications of mechanism design in electronic, optical-electronic, chemical, and aerospace industries is presented in a comprehensible way. Topics treated include the method of microparticles flow regulation and its determination in vacuum equipment and mechanisms of electronics; precise mechanisms of nanoscale precision based on magnetic and electric rheology; precise harmonic rotary and not-coaxial nut-screw linear motion vacuum feedthroughs with technical parameters considered the best in the world; elastically deformed vacuum motion feedthroughs without friction couples usage; the computer system of vacuum mechanisms failure predicting. This English edition incorporates a number of features which should improve its usefulness as a textbook without changing the basic organization or the general philosophy of presentation of the subject matter of the original Russian work. Experience at the Bauman Moscow State Technical University and other schools shows that the book will be useful to engineering students who wish to prepare for more advanced studies and applications of vacuum science, technology and its applications |

Title | Biomimetics in Materials Science : Self-Healing, Self-Lubricating, and Self-Cleaning Materials |
Author(s) | Nosonovsky, Michael;Rohatgi, Pradeep K |
Publication | New York, NY, Springer New York, 2012. |
Description | XXVI, 418 p : online resource |
Abstract Note | Biomimetics in Materials Science provides a comprehensive theoretical and practical review of biomimetic materials with self-healing, self-lubricating and self-cleaning properties. These three topics are closely related and constitute rapidly developing areas of study. The field of self-healing materials requires a new conceptual understanding of this biomimetic technology, which is in contrast to traditional?? engineering processes such as wear and fatigue. ??Biomimetics in Materials Science is the first monograph to be devoted to these materials. A new theoretical framework for these processes is presented based on the concept of multi-scale structure of entropy and non-equilibrium thermodynamics, together with a detailed review of the available technology. The latter includes experimental, modeling, and simulation results obtained on self-healing/lubricating/cleaning materials since their emergence in the past decade. Describes smart, biomimetic materials in the context of nanotechnology, biotechnology, and self-organization Covers self-healing, self-lubricating, and self-cleaning materials with applications to green technologies in areas such as energy, biomedical devices, and defense Presents a unified approach by leading researchers in the field covering both theoretical and practical issues |

Title | Advanced Experimental and Numerical Techniques for Cavitation Erosion Prediction |
Author(s) | Kim, Ki-Han;Chahine, Georges;Franc, Jean-Pierre;Karimi, Ayat |
Publication | Dordrecht, Springer Netherlands, 2014. |
Description | XVII, 399 p. 290 illus., 220 illus. in color : online resource |
Abstract Note | This book provides a comprehensive treatment of the cavitation erosion phenomenon and state-of-the-art research in the field. It is divided into two parts. Part 1 consists of seven chapters, offering a wide range of computational and experimental approaches to cavitation erosion. It includes a general introduction to cavitation and cavitation erosion, a detailed description of facilities and measurement techniques commonly used in cavitation erosion studies, an extensive presentation of various stages of cavitation damage (including incubation and mass loss), and insights into the contribution of computational methods to the analysis of both fluid and material behavior. The proposed approach is based on a detailed description of impact loads generated by collapsing cavitation bubbles and a physical analysis of the material response to these loads. Part 2 is devoted to a selection of nine papers presented at the International Workshop on Advanced Experimental and Numerical Techniques for Cavitation Erosion (Grenoble, France, 1-2 March 2011), representing??the forefront of research on??cavitation erosion. Innovative numerical and experimental investigations illustrate the most advanced breakthroughs in cavitation erosion research.?????? |
