TitleAdvanced Technologies for Security Applications : Proceedings of the NATO Science for Peace and Security 'Cluster Workshop on Advanced Technologies', 17-18 September 2019, Leuven, Belgium
Author(s)Palestini, Claudio
PublicationDordrecht, Springer Netherlands, 2020.
DescriptionVIII, 315 p. 170 illus., 4 illus. in color : online resource
Abstract NoteTechnology has been the spark that ignited NATO???s interest and commitment to scientific advancement during its history. Since its creation, the Science for Peace and Security (SPS) Programme has been instrumental to NATO???s commitment to innovation, science and technological advancement. During the years, SPS has demonstrated a flexible and versatile approach to practical scientific cooperation, and has promoted knowledge-sharing, building capacity, and projected stability outside NATO territory. The priorities addressed by the SPS Programme are aligned with NATO???s strategic objectives, and aim to tackle emerging security challenges that require dynamic adaptation for the prevention and mitigation of risks. By addressing priorities such as advanced technologies, hybrid threats, and counter-terrorism, the Programme deals with new, contemporary challenges. On 17-18 September 2019, the SPS Programme gathered at the KU Leuven University a wide number of researchers from a selection of on-going and recently closed SPS projects in the field of security-related advanced technologies for a ???Cluster Workshop on Advanced Technologies???. The workshop covered, in particular, the following scientific domains: communication systems, advanced materials, sensors and detectors, and unmanned and autonomous systems. This book provides an overview on how these projects have contributed to the development of new technologies and innovative solutions and recommendations for future actions in the NATO SPS programme

TitleToward an International Virtual Observatory : Proceedings of the ESO/ESA/NASA/NSF Conference Held at Garching, Germany, 10???14 June 2002
Author(s)Quinn, Peter J;G??rski, Krzysztof M
PublicationBerlin, Heidelberg, Springer Berlin Heidelberg, 2004.
DescriptionXXII, 344 p. 71 illus : online resource
Abstract NoteThe book is the first thorough overview of the first important steps to develop a worldwide virtual observatory so that, in the future, it could be easier to "dial-up" a part of the sky than wait many months to access a telescope. The articles in this book present details on the status of the first efforts to develop a standardized framework for the virtual observatory, including steps towards completion and deployment of technical infrastructure, uptake by data providers worldwide, and utilization by the scientific community

TitleComplex Computing-Networks : Brain-like and Wave-oriented Electrodynamic Algorithms
Author(s)G??knar, Izzet Cem;Sevgi, Levent
PublicationBerlin, Heidelberg, Springer Berlin Heidelberg, 2006.
DescriptionX, 398 p : online resource
Abstract NoteThis book uniquely combines new advances in the electromagnetic and the circuits&systems theory. It integrates both fields regarding computational aspects of common interest. Emphasized subjects are those methods which mimic brain-like and electrodynamic behaviour; among these are cellular neural networks, chaos and chaotic dynamics, attractor-based computation and stream ciphers. The book contains carefully selected contributions from the Symposium CCN2005. Pictures from the bestowal of Honorary Doctorate degrees to Leon O. Chua and Leopold B. Felsen are included.

TitleComplex Dynamics in Communication Networks
Author(s)Kocarev, Ljupco;Vattay, Gabor
PublicationBerlin, Heidelberg, Springer Berlin Heidelberg, 2005.
DescriptionX, 362 p : online resource
Abstract NoteComputer and communication networks are among society's most important infrastructures. The internet, in particular, is a giant global network of networks without central control or administration. It is a paradigm of a complex system, where complexity may arise from different sources: topological structure, network evolution, connection and node diversity, or dynamical evolution. The present volume is the first book entirely devoted to the new and emerging field of nonlinear dynamics of TCP/IP networks. It addresses both scientists and engineers working in the general field of communication networks
