| Title | Jets from Young Stars II : Clues from High Angular Resolution Observations |
| Author(s) | Bacciotti, Francesca;Whelan, Emma;Testi, Leonardo |
| Publication | Berlin, Heidelberg, Springer Berlin Heidelberg, 2008. |
| Description | XII, 292 p : online resource |
| Abstract Note | This volume contains the edited lecture notes of the Second JETSET School on Jets from Young Stars: Clues from High Angular Resolution Observations organised by the Marie Curie Research Training Network JETSET: Jet Simulations, Experiments and Theory. After the opening two chapters on jet emission, readers can learn the fundamental background of modern high-spatial-resolution techniques, and how such methods have impacted on our understanding of young stars. The lectures provide hands-on insight into Observing from space, e.g. from HST and in the future JWST, and from the ground with adaptive optics, The use of interferometers at millimetre and infrared wavelengths, Spectro-astrometry Image analysis and spectral diagnostic techniques High-Angular Resolution studies of the inner regions of circumstellar disks, which play a fundamental role in jet launching. The books' practical approach makes it an outstanding and extremely useful textbook for PhD students and young researchers in astronomy |

| Title | Jets from Young Stars : Models and Constraints |
| Author(s) | Ferreira, Jonathan;Dougados, Catherine;Whelan, Emma |
| Publication | Berlin, Heidelberg, Springer Berlin Heidelberg, 2007. |
| Description | XI, 228 p : online resource |
| Abstract Note | This volume contains the edited lecture notes of the First JETSET School on Jets from Young Stars: Models and Constraints, held by the Marie Curie Research and Training Network on JET Simulations, Experiments and Theory. At this school the lecturers gave an introduction to observational properties and basic models describing the launching and collimation mechanisms of jets. The first half of the book is devoted to general observational constraints, covering the outflow phenomenon in young stars, the identification of magneto-centrifugal processes as the main jet driving mechanism, and the magnetic interaction between the star and its accretion disc. The second half of the book is devoted to theoretical knowledge of magneto-hydrodynamic processes pertinent to the jet launching mechanism in young stars. This comprises a general introduction to magneto-hydrodynamics, a description of the role of MHD processes in Standard Accretion Discs, and the physics of steady state MHD outflows, from the basic concepts and equations to modern self-similar solutions. Further lectures detail the various classes of steady magnetic-wind models currently discussed in the context of protostellar jets |
