TitleBig data in astronomy: Scientific Data Processing for Advanced Radio Telescope
Author(s)Linghe Kong (ed.);Tian Huang (ed.);Yongxin Zhu (ed.);Shenghua Yu (ed.)
PublicationAmsterdam, Elsevier Science Publishers, 2020.
Descriptionxv, 422p.
Abstract NoteBig Data in Radio Astronomy: Scientific Data Processing for Advanced Radio Telescopes provides the latest research developments in big data methods and techniques for radio astronomy. Providing examples from such projects as the Square Kilometer Array (SKA), the world’s largest radio telescope that generates over an Exabyte of data every day, the book offers solutions for coping with the challenges and opportunities presented by the exponential growth of astronomical data. Presenting state-of-the-art results and research, this book is a timely reference for both practitioners and researchers working in radio astronomy, as well as students looking for a basic understanding of big data in astronomy.

TitleMultiplex Networks : Basic Formalism and Structural Properties
Author(s)Cozzo, Emanuele;de Arruda, Guilherme Ferraz;Rodrigues, Francisco Aparecido;Moreno, Yamir
PublicationCham, Springer International Publishing, 2018.
DescriptionVII, 121 p. 36 illus. in color : online resource
Abstract NoteThis book provides the basis of a formal language and explores its possibilities in the characterization of multiplex networks. Armed with the formalism developed, the authors define structural metrics for multiplex networks. A methodology to generalize monoplex structural metrics to multiplex networks is also presented so that the reader will be able to generalize other metrics of interest in a systematic way. Therefore, this book will serve as a guide for the theoretical development of new multiplex metrics. Furthermore, this Brief describes the spectral properties of these networks in relation to concepts from algebraic graph theory and the theory of matrix polynomials. The text is rounded off by analyzing the different structural transitions present in multiplex systems as well as by a brief overview of some representative dynamical processes. Multiplex Networks will appeal to students, researchers, and professionals within the fields of network science, graph theory, and data science.

TitleCitation Analysis and Dynamics of Citation Networks
Author(s)Golosovsky, Michael
PublicationCham, Springer International Publishing, 2019.
DescriptionXIV, 121 p. 53 illus., 52 illus. in color : online resource
Abstract NoteThis book deals with the science of science by applying network science methods to citation networks and uniquely presents a physics-inspired model of citation dynamics. This stochastic model of citation dynamics is based on a well-known copying or recursive search mechanism. The measurements covered in this text yield parameters of the model and reveal that citation dynamics of scientific papers is not linear, as was previously assumed. This nonlinearity has far-reaching consequences including non-stationary citation distributions, diverging citation trajectories of similar papers, and runaways or "immortal papers" with an infinite citation lifespan. The author shows us that nonlinear stochastic models of citation dynamics can be the basis for a quantitative probabilistic prediction of citation dynamics of individual papers and of the overall journal impact factor. This book appeals to students and researchers from differing subject areas working in network science and bibliometrics

TitlePutting Social Media and Networking Data in Practice for Education, Planning, Prediction and Recommendation
Author(s)Kaya, Mehmet;Birinci, ??uayip;Kawash, Jalal;Alhajj, Reda
PublicationCham, Springer International Publishing, 2020.
DescriptionXIII, 237 p. 68 illus., 51 illus. in color : online resource
Abstract NoteThis book focusses on recommendation, behavior, and anomaly, among of social media analysis. First, recommendation is vital for a variety of applications to narrow down the search space and to better guide people towards educated and personalized alternatives. In this context, the book covers supporting students, food venue, friend and paper recommendation to demonstrate the power of social media data analysis. Secondly, this book treats behavior analysis and understanding as important for a variety of applications, including inspiring behavior from discussion platforms, determining user choices, detecting following patterns, crowd behavior modeling for emergency evacuation, tracking community structure, etc. Third, fraud and anomaly detection have been well tackled based on social media analysis. This has is illustrated in this book by identifying anomalous nodes in a network, chasing undetected fraud processes, discovering hidden knowledge, detecting clickbait, etc. With this wide coverage, the book forms a good source for practitioners and researchers, including instructors and students
