TitleAcoustics for Engineers : Troy Lectures
Author(s)Xiang, Ning;Blauert, Jens
PublicationBerlin, Heidelberg, Springer Berlin Heidelberg, 2021.
DescriptionXV, 421 p. 277 illus : online resource
Abstract NoteThis textbook provides materials for an introductory course in Engineering Acoustics for students with a basic knowledge of mathematics. The contents are based on extensive teaching experience at the graduate level. Each of the 14 main chapters deals with a well-defined topic and represents the material for a two-hour lecture. The chapters alternate between more theoretical and more application-oriented concepts. The presentation is organized to be suitable for self-study as well. For this third edition, the complete text and many figures have been revised. Several current amendments take account of advancements in the field. Further, a completely new chapter has been added which presents approaches and solutions to all assigned exercise problems. The new chapter offers the opportunity to explore the underlying theoretical background in more detail. However, the study of the problems and their proposed solutions is no prerequisite for comprehending the material presented in the book's lecture part

TitleAdvances in Terahertz Technology and Its Applications
Author(s)Das, Sudipta;Anveshkumar, N;Dutta, Joydeep;Biswas, Arindam
PublicationSingapore, Springer Nature Singapore, 2021.
DescriptionX, 376 p. 259 illus., 210 illus. in color : online resource
Abstract NoteThis book highlights the growing applications of THz technology and various modules used for their successful realization. The enormous advantages of THz devices like higher resolution, spatial directivity, high-speed communication, greater bandwidth, non-ionizing signal nature and compactness make them useful in various applications like communication, sensing, security, safety, spectroscopy, manufacturing, bio-medical, agriculture, imaging, etc. Since the THz radiation covers frequencies from 0.1THz to around 10THz and highly attenuated by atmospheric gases, they are used in short-distance applications only. The book focuses on recent advances and different research issues in terahertz technology and presents theoretical, methodological, well-established and validated empirical works dealing with the different topics

TitleIonospheric Delay Investigation and Forecasting
Author(s)Elmunim, N. A;Abdullah, M
PublicationSingapore, Springer Nature Singapore, 2021.
DescriptionXIV, 100 p. 43 illus., 40 illus. in color : online resource
Abstract NoteThis book highlights ionospheric delay investigation and forecasting using GPS-TEC measurements in the equatorial region. The ionospheric delay error is the main source of error and a major concern for GPS applications as it corrupts the positioning and time transfer results. In the equatorial region, the variations of the total electron content (TEC) and the ionospheric delay are recognized to be high when compared with other regions such as mid-latitude and high latitude. The investigation and forecasting of trans-ionospheric propagation errors are essential for precise measurement and further contribute valuable information to satellite and space probe navigation, space geodesy, radio astronomy and other applications

TitleThe Search for ExtraTerrestrial Intelligence : Proceedings of the 2nd SETI-INAF Meeting 2019
Author(s)Montebugnoli, Stelio;Melis, Andrea;Antonietti, Nicol??
PublicationCham, Springer International Publishing, 2021.
DescriptionXVIII, 135 p. 57 illus., 53 illus. in color : online resource
Abstract NoteThis book presents the latest knowledge of the newly discovered Earth-like exoplanets and reviews improvements in both radio and optical SETI. A key aim is to stimulate fresh discussion on algorithms that will be of high value in this extremely complicated search. Exoplanets resembling Earth could well be able to sustain life and support the evolution of technological civilizations, but to date, all searches for such life forms have proved fruitless. The failings of SETI observations are well recognized, and a new search approach is necessary. In this book, different detection algorithms that exploit state-of-the-art, low-cost, and extremely fast multiprocessors are examined and compared. Novel methods such as the agnostic entropy and high-sensitivity blind signal extraction algorithms should represent a quantum leap forward in SETI. The book is of interest to all researchers in the field and hopefully stimulates significant progress in the search for extraterrestrial intelligence
