TitleAdvanced Methods for Human Biometrics
Author(s)Derbel, Nabil;Kanoun, Olfa
PublicationCham, Springer International Publishing, 2021.
DescriptionX, 303 p. 169 illus., 137 illus. in color : online resource
Abstract NoteThe book highlights recent developments in human biometrics, covering a wide range of methods based on biological signals, image processing, and measurements of human characteristics such as fingerprints and iris or medical characteristics. Human Biometrics is becoming increasingly crucial in forensics security and medicine. They provide a solid basis for identifying individuals based on unique physical characteristics or diseases based on characteristic biomedical measurements. As such, the book offers an essential reference guide about biometry methods for students, engineers, designers, and technicians.

TitleIonospheric Delay Investigation and Forecasting
Author(s)Elmunim, N. A;Abdullah, M
PublicationSingapore, Springer Nature Singapore, 2021.
DescriptionXIV, 100 p. 43 illus., 40 illus. in color : online resource
Abstract NoteThis book highlights ionospheric delay investigation and forecasting using GPS-TEC measurements in the equatorial region. The ionospheric delay error is the main source of error and a major concern for GPS applications as it corrupts the positioning and time transfer results. In the equatorial region, the variations of the total electron content (TEC) and the ionospheric delay are recognized to be high when compared with other regions such as mid-latitude and high latitude. The investigation and forecasting of trans-ionospheric propagation errors are essential for precise measurement and further contribute valuable information to satellite and space probe navigation, space geodesy, radio astronomy and other applications

TitleThe Search for ExtraTerrestrial Intelligence : Proceedings of the 2nd SETI-INAF Meeting 2019
Author(s)Montebugnoli, Stelio;Melis, Andrea;Antonietti, Nicol??
PublicationCham, Springer International Publishing, 2021.
DescriptionXVIII, 135 p. 57 illus., 53 illus. in color : online resource
Abstract NoteThis book presents the latest knowledge of the newly discovered Earth-like exoplanets and reviews improvements in both radio and optical SETI. A key aim is to stimulate fresh discussion on algorithms that will be of high value in this extremely complicated search. Exoplanets resembling Earth could well be able to sustain life and support the evolution of technological civilizations, but to date, all searches for such life forms have proved fruitless. The failings of SETI observations are well recognized, and a new search approach is necessary. In this book, different detection algorithms that exploit state-of-the-art, low-cost, and extremely fast multiprocessors are examined and compared. Novel methods such as the agnostic entropy and high-sensitivity blind signal extraction algorithms should represent a quantum leap forward in SETI. The book is of interest to all researchers in the field and hopefully stimulates significant progress in the search for extraterrestrial intelligence
