TitleLaser Cleaning : Fundamentals and Applications
Author(s)Song, Feng;Lin, Xuechun
PublicationSingapore, 1. Imprint: Springer 2. Springer Nature Singapore, 2024.
DescriptionXVI, 337 p. 189 illus., 145 illus. in color : online resource
Abstract NoteThis book highlights a comprehensive summary of the latest advances in research and applications of laser cleaning. As an innovative way of surface treatment, laser cleaning has received increasing global attention in today's environmentally conscious world. Laser cleaning has gone through a long history from theories to technological developments, and to a wide spectrum of applications. The book first presents the fundamental physics of laser cleaning and demonstrates how the theories have guided the innovation of technology and applications. Following that, the new and most used equipment for laser cleaning has been introduced. Applications in electrics, paint removal, rust removal, the mold industry, cultural heritage protection, and other fields are summarized with plenty of examples and discussions. The book is a valuable reference in laser cleaning for researchers who seek inspiration for their research, engineers who need specific information to guide their work, and students who must learn systematically with working examples. This book is a translation of an original German edition. The translation was done with the help of artificial intelligence (machine translation by the service DeepL.com). A subsequent human revision was done primarily in terms of content, so that the book will read stylistically differently from a conventional translation

TitleProceedings of the 5th International Symposium on Plasma and Energy Conversion : iSPEC2023, 27???29 October, Nanjing, China
Author(s)Fang, Zhi;Zhang, Cheng;Mei, Danhua;Zhang, Shuai
PublicationSingapore, 1. Imprint: Springer 2. Springer Nature Singapore, 2024.
DescriptionXXXII, 723 p. 463 illus., 406 illus. in color : online resource
Abstract NoteThis proceedings book contains selected and expanded contributions presented at the 5th International Symposium on Plasma and Energy Conversion (ISPEC), held in Nanjing, China, on 27???29 October. 2023. These proceedings highlight the latest research findings, technological advances, and innovative ideas in plasma and energy conversion which are critical to addressing the global energy and environmental challenges. Oriented towards the international frontier of carbon emission reduction technologies and China's national strategic goals of carbon peak and carbon neutrality, plasma and related energy conversion has been gaining attention as a promising alternative to thermal-catalysis or electro-catalysis. The proceedings discuss and exchange cutting-edge scientific innovations and technological advances in fields such as the basic process of discharge plasmas, plasma-assisted synthesis of chemicals and fuels, plasma-controlled environmental pollution, plasma-assisted preparation and treatment of catalysts and function materials, plasma-interface interactions, plasma modelling and simulation technology, and high-voltage measurement and instrumentation, which show great industrial potentials in conversion and utilization of greenhouse gases (e.g. CO2 and CH4), nitrogen fixation, plasma deposition and chemical synthesis, environmental clean-up (e.g. gas cleaning and wastewater treatment), as well as the development of the corresponding plasma devices and driving power supplies. This collection of papers presents the main contributions of plasma and energy conversion in the form of separate chapters, including cutting-edge studies on conversion technology, synthesis and treatment technology, complex mechanism simulation and modelling, as well as in-situ detection and diagnosis. These proceedings are suitable for researchers engaged in fields like plasma chemistry, plasma-catalysis, discharge diagnosis and modelling, chemical modelling, and high-voltage applications.

TitleClassical and Quantum Description of Plasma and Radiation in Strong Fields
Author(s)Niel, Fabien
PublicationCham, Springer International Publishing, 2021.
DescriptionXXIII, 266 p. 75 illus., 62 illus. in color : online resource
Abstract NoteThis thesis presents several important aspects of the plasma dynamics in extremely high intensity electromagnetic fields when quantum electrodynamics effects have to be taken into account. This work is of utmost importance for the forthcoming generation of multipetawatt laser facilities where this physics will be tested. The first part consists of an introduction that extends from classical and quantum electrodynamics in strong fields to the kinetic description of plasmas in the interaction with such fields. This can be considered as an advanced tutorial which would be extremely useful to researchers and students new to the field. The second part describes original contributions on the analysis of the signatures of classical and quantum radiation reaction on the distribution function of the charged particles and of the photon spectrum, and leads to significant advances on this topic. These results are then extended to the analysis of the so-called QED cascades which are of central importance for a better understanding of some astrophysical phenomena and basic physics problems. Finally, the book discusses future directions for the high intensity laser???plasma interaction community. The results presented in this thesis are expected to become more and more relevant as the new multipetawatt facilities become operative

TitleHigh Power Laser Propulsion
Author(s)Rezunkov, Yuri A
PublicationCham, Springer International Publishing, 2021.
DescriptionXVIII, 294 p. 20 illus., 10 illus. in color : online resource
Abstract NoteThis book gives an in-depth analysis of the physical phenomena of thrust production by laser radiation, as well as laser propulsion engines, and laser-propelled vehicles. It brings together into a unified context accumulated up-to-date information on laser propulsion research, considering propulsion phenomena, laser propulsion techniques, design of vehicles with laser propulsion engines, and high-power laser systems to provide movement for space vehicles. In particular, the reader will find detailed coverage of: designs of laser propulsion engines, operating as both air-breathing and ramjet engines to launch vehicles into LEOs; Assembly of vehicles whereby laser power from a remote laser is collected and directed into a propulsion engine; and, the laser-adaptive systems that control a laser beam to propel vehicles into orbits by delivering laser power through the Earth's atmosphere. This book is essential reading for researchers and professionals involved in laser propulsion
