TitleMagnonic Devices : Numerical Modelling and Micromagnetic Simulation Approach
Author(s)Nikhil Kumar, C. S
PublicationCham, 1. Imprint: Springer 2. Springer Nature Switzerland, 2023.
DescriptionXII, 81 p. 64 illus., 63 illus. in color : online resource
Abstract NoteThis book briefly looks at numerical modeling and micromagnetic simulation results of magnonic crystals, which are periodically modulated magnonic devices regarded as the magnetic counterpart of photonic crystals with spin waves acting as the information carrier. Since the wavelength of the spin wave is several orders of magnitude shorter than that of electromagnetic waves of the same frequency, magnonic crystals are promising candidates for miniaturization, especially in the fields of data storage and processing. The book begins by describing the dispersion relation of dipolar spin waves in a magnonic curved waveguide, solving Walker's equation in cylindrical coordinates, and then calculating the dispersion of exchange spin waves using perturbation theory. It describes simulated nano-contact-driven spin wave excitations in a magnonic cavity, featuring a design of an antidot magnonic crystal around the nano-contact, with the frequency of the spin wave mode generated lying within the band gap of the magnonic crystal. The proposed device behaves as a SWASER???Spin Wave Amplification by the Stimulated Emission of Radiation. This book will find interest among researchers and practitioners interested in the modeling, simulation, and design of novel magnonic devices

TitleDeployable Multimodal Machine Intelligence : Applications in Biomedical Engineering
Author(s)Ren, Hongliang
PublicationSingapore, 1. Imprint: Springer 2. Springer Nature Singapore, 2023.
DescriptionXVII, 546 p. 575 illus., 526 illus. in color : online resource
Abstract NoteThis book highlights the principles, design and characterization of mechanically compliant soft and foldable robots. Traditional rigid robots with bulky footprints and complicated components prolong the design iteration and optimization for keyhole and minimally invasive transluminal applications. Therefore, there is an interest in developing soft and foldable robots with remote actuation, multimodal sensing and machine intelligence. This book discusses the use of foldable and cuttable structures to design biomimetic deployable soft robots, that can exhibit a fair number of motions with consistency and repeatability. It presents the overall design principles, methodology, instrumentation, metamorphic sensing, multi-modal perception, and machine intelligence for creating untethered foldable active structures. These robotic structures can generate a variety of motions such as wave induction, compression, inchworm, peristalsis, flipping, tumbling, walking, swimming, flexion/extension etc.Remote actuation can control motions along regular and irregular surfaces from proximal sides. For self-deployable medical robots, motion diversity and shape reconfiguration are crucial factors. Deployable robots, with the use of malleable and resilient smart actuators, hold this crucial advantage over their conventional rigid robot counterparts. Such flexible structures capable of being compressed and expanded with intelligence perceptions hold enormous potential in biomedical applications

PublicationSingapore, 1. Imprint: Springer 2. Springer Nature Singapore, 2022.
DescriptionXIV, 204 p. 137 illus., 81 illus. in color : online resource
Abstract NoteThis book presents recent and upcoming technological advancements in millimeter-wave (mm-wave), infrared (IR) and terahertz (THz) frequency spectrums. The scope of this book includes a significantly long portion of the electromagnetic spectrum, starting from the mm-waves (i.e. 30 GHz) and extended up to the end of the near-IR spectrum (i.e. 450 THz). Most significant aspect of this portion of the electromagnetic spectrum is that it includes a frequency regime where the gradual technological transition from electronics to photonics occurred. The book especially focuses on the recent advancements and several research issues related to materials, sources, detectors, passive circuits, advanced signal processing and image processing algorithms for mm-wave, IR and THz frequency bands. The book covers a very wide range of readers from basic science to technological experts as well as research scholars

TitleOptical Nonlinearities in Nanostructured Systems
Author(s)Torres-Torres, Carlos;Garc??a-Beltr??n, Geselle
PublicationCham, 1. Imprint: Springer 2. Springer International Publishing, 2022.
DescriptionXVII, 169 p. 47 illus., 46 illus. in color : online resource
Abstract NoteThis book provides readers with a detailed overview of second- and third-order nonlinearities in various nanostructures, as well as their potential applications. Interest in the field of nonlinear optics has grown exponentially in recent years and, as a result, there is increasing research on novel nonlinear phenomena and the development of nonlinear photonic devices. Thus, such a book serves as a comprehensive guide for researchers in the field and those seeking to become familiar with it. This text focuses on the nonlinear properties of nanostructured systems that arise as a result of optical wave mixing. The authors present a review of nonlinear optical processes on the nanoscale and provide theoretical descriptions for second and third-order optical nonlinearities in nanostructures such as carbon allotropes, metallic nanostructures, semiconductors, nanocrystals, and complex geometries. Here, the characterization and potential applications of these nanomaterials are also discussed. The factors that determine the nonlinear susceptibility in these systems are identified as well as the influence of physical mechanisms emerging from resonance and off-resonance excitations. In addition, the authors detail the effects driven by important phenomena such as quantum confinement, localized surface plasmon resonance, Fano resonances, bound states, and the Purcell effect on specific nanostructured systems. Readers are provided with a groundwork for future research as well as new perspectives in this growing field
