Title | From Silos to Network: A New Kind of Science for Management : A New Kind of Science for Managing Complexity |
Author(s) | Lepore, Domenico;Montgomery, Angela;Siepe, Giovanni;Siepe, Francesco |
Publication | Cham, 1. Imprint: Springer
2. Springer International Publishing, 2023. |
Description | XXIII, 90 p. 55 illus., 27 illus. in color : online resource |
Abstract Note | This book provides the conceptual framework and a comprehensive guide to the principles, methods and tools for managing organizations. The authors introduce ???New Knowledge??? by presenting a methodology, 'The Decalogue???, that portrays a genuinely systemic approach for managing complexity in organizations and Value Chains through focusing on the management of a leverage point called constraint (Theory of Constraints) and the understanding of variation (Theory of Profound Knowledge). This systemic approach leverages the intrinsic process and project-based nature of the work of organizations. Functional hierarchy is replaced by a network-like structure, driven by the goal of the system and governed by a new design of the organization called ???Network of Projects???. The transition towards the Network of Projects requires a cognitive shift in the way we view and put to good use human talent and ingenuity as well as a powerful algorithm to orchestrate and synchronize individual competencies. The authors discuss at length this algorithm, how the Theory of Constraints helps in the cognitive challenges of this shift and also how technology can be used fruitfully to assist with the operational implications. The target audience for this book is made up of leaders and managers of organizations as well as researchers and practitioners in the field of management and organizational design |

Title | The Quantum-Like Revolution : A Festschrift for Andrei Khrennikov |
Author(s) | Plotnitsky, Arkady;Haven, Emmanuel |
Publication | Cham, 1. Imprint: Springer
2. Springer International Publishing, 2023. |
Description | XV, 383 p. 36 illus., 6 illus. in color : online resource |
Abstract Note | Over the last ten years, elements of the formalism of quantum mechanics have been successfully applied beyond physics in areas such as psychology (especially cognition), economics and finance (especially in the formalization of so-called ???decision making???), political science, and molecular biology. An important stream of work along these lines, commonly under the heading of quantum-like modeling, has been published in well regarded scientific journals, and major publishers have devoted entire books to the topic. This Festschrift honors a key figure in this field of research: Andrei Khrennikov, who made momentous contributions to it and to quantum foundations themselves. While honoring these contributions, and in order to do so, this Festschrift orients its reader toward the future rather than focusing on the past: it addresses future challenges and establishes the way forward in both domains, quantum-like modeling and quantum foundations. A while ago, in response to the developments of using the quantum formalism outside of quantum mechanics, the eminent quantum physicist Anton Zeilinger said, ???Why should it be precisely the quantum mechanics formalism? Maybe its generalization would be more adequate?????? This volume responds to this statement by both showing the reasons for the continuing importance of quantum formalism and yet also considering pathways to such generalizations. Khrennikov???s work has been indispensable in establishing the great promise of quantum and quantum-like thinking in shaping the future of scientific research across the disciplines |

2. Springer International Publishing, 2022. |
Description | XIV, 205 p. 33 illus., 26 illus. in color : online resource |
Abstract Note | This book provides research results and shares experiences in the area of supply chain management. It addresses topics such as risk reduction of lesser marginal profits, disrupted supply chain management, and potential points of business failure. This book explores the ???new normal??? of the business supply chain. The didactic approach informs global enterprises on how to deal with the most significant issues in the current supply chain management. The book shows an in-depth analysis of post-COVID opportunities and challenges and acts as an initiative for readers to understand the risks, opportunities, and concerns resulting from the pandemic situation and is a key driver for business management among industry professionals and enterprises. Readers will learn new insights and procedures to better manage multitier supply chains, predictability, and estimation of binding capacity. The book details modeling and technology-based customer demand and response management solutions. New techniques, methods, and perspectives dealing with the estimation, acceleration or deceleration, and flexibility of logistics capacity are particularly emphasized throughout the manuscript. Real-world cases dealing with various aspects of the new normal for supply chains are analyzed. The book is useful for industry professionals and enterprise firms in business management to effectively understand risks, opportunities, and concerning the pandemic situation |

Publication | Cham, Springer International Publishing, 2021. |
Description | XVII, 242 p. 254 illus., 168 illus. in color : online resource |
Abstract Note | This book offers an overview on the main modern important topics in random variables, random processes, and decision theory for solving real-world problems. After an introduction to concepts of statistics and signals, the book introduces many essential applications to signal processing like denoising, texture classification, histogram equalization, deep learning, or feature extraction. The book uses MATLAB algorithms to demonstrate the implementation of the theory to real systems. This makes the contents of the book relevant to students and professionals who need a quick introduction but practical introduction how to deal with random signals and processes |

Title | Chaos, Complexity and Leadership 2020 : Application of Nonlinear Dynamics from Interdisciplinary Perspective |
Author(s) | Er??etin, ??efika ??ule;A????kal??n, ??uay Nilhan;Vajzovi??, Emir |
Publication | Cham, Springer International Publishing, 2021. |
Description | XII, 315 p. 43 illus., 18 illus. in color : online resource |
Abstract Note | This book analyzes a range of new developments in various fields concerning the concepts of chaos and complexity theory. The proceedings of the 7th International Symposium on Chaos, Complexity and Leadership feature newly developed concepts involving various research methodologies for identifying chaos and complexity in different fields of the sciences and leadership. In addition, it explores chaotic and complex systems from all fields of knowledge in order to stake a claim of prevalence of compatibility between knowledge fields. Particular emphasis is placed on exploring non-linearity in order to open a discussion on new approaches to and perspectives on chaos, complexity and leadership. Readers will find coverage of important events that have recently taken place in our world, regardless of whether they were social, political, economic or scientific in nature. The book explores diverse aspects of and issues related to the effects of chaos and complexity in the world; discusses the application of nonlinear dynamics in order to arrive at transformational policies; and offers projections of tomorrow???s world using an interdisciplinary approach. Though primarily intended for readers with an interest in nonlinear science, thanks to its focus on the application of chaos and complexity to other disciplines, the book appeals to a broad readership |
