| Abstract Note | This book presents the rapidly developing field of artificial intelligence and machine learning and its application in biomedical imaging. As is known, starting from the diagnosis of fractures by using X-rays to understanding the complex structure and function of the brain, biomedical imaging has contributed immensely toward the development of precision diagnosis and treatment strategies for numerous diseases. While continuous evolution in imaging technologies have enabled the acquisition of images having resolution and contrast far better than ever, it significantly increased the volume of data associated with each image scan???making it increasingly difficult for experts to analyze and interpret. In this context, the application of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) tools has become one of the most exciting frontlines of contemporary research in biomedical imaging due to their capability to extract minute traces of various disease signatures from large and complicated datasets and providing clear insight into the potential abnormalities with excellent accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity. The hallmark of this book will be the contributions from international leaders on different AI-aided advanced biomedical imaging modalities and techniques. Included will be comprehensive description of several of the technology-driven spectacular advances made over the past few years that have allowed early detection and delineation of abnormalities with sub-pixel image segmentation and classification. Starting from the fundamentals of biomedical image processing, the book presents a streamlined and focused coverage of the core principles, theoretical and experimental approaches, and state-of-the-art applications of most of the currently used biomedical imaging techniques powered by AI |

| Abstract Note | This book focuses on polarization microscopy, a powerful optical tool used to study anisotropic properties in biomolecules, and its enormous potential to improve diagnostic tools for various biomedical research. The interaction of polarized light with normal and abnormal regions of tissue reveals structural information associated with its pathological condition. Diagnosis using conventional microscopy can be time-consuming, as pathologists require an hour to freeze and stain tissue slices from suspected patients. In comparison, polarization microscopy more quickly distinguishes abnormal tissue and provides better microstructural information of samples, even in the absence of staining. This book provides a basic understanding of the properties of polarized light, a description of the polarization microscope, and a mathematical formalism of Mueller matrix polarimetry. The authors discuss various advanced linear and nonlinear optical techniques such as optical coherence tomography (OCT), reflectance and transmission spectroscopy, fluorescence, multiphoton excitation, second harmonic generation, Raman microscopy, and more. They explore the exciting potential of integrating polarimetry with these techniques for possible applications in different areas of biomedical research, as well as the associated challenges. Including the most recent developments on the topic, this book serves as a modern guide to polarization microscopy and advancements in its use in biomedical research |

| Abstract Note | This book gives a comprehensive overview of recent advancements in both theory and practical implementation of plasmonic probes. Encompassing multiple disciplines, the field of plasmonics provides a versatile and flexible platform for nanoscale sensing and imaging. Despite being a relatively young field, plasmonic probes have come a long way, with applications in chemical, biological, civil, and architectural fields as well as enabling many analytical schemes such as immunoassay, biomarkers, environmental indexing, and water quality sensing, to name but a few. The objective of the book is to present in-depth analysis of the theory and applications of novel probes based on plasmonics, with a broad selection of specially-invited chapters on the development, fabrication, functionalization, and implementation of plasmonic probes as well as their integration with current technologies and future outlook. This book is designed to cater to the needs of novice, seasoned researchers and practitioners in academia and industry, as well as medical and environmental fields |
