TitleEngineering Metrology for Pedestrian Falls Prevention and Protection : Theories to Applications for Designing Safer Shoes and Floors
Author(s)Kim, In-Ju
PublicationCham, 1. Imprint: Springer 2. Springer International Publishing, 2022.
DescriptionXLVII, 520 p. 207 illus., 90 illus. in color : online resource
Abstract NoteThis book explains how to improve the validity, reliability, and repeatability of slip resistance assessments amongst a range of shoes, floors, and environments from an engineering metrology viewpoint???covering theoretical and experimental aspects of slip resistance mechanics and mechanisms. Pedestrian falls resulting from slips or falls are one of the foremost causes of fatal and non-fatal injuries that limit people???s functionality. There have been prolonged efforts globally to identify and understand their main causes and reduce their frequency and severity. This book deals with large volumes of information on tribological characteristics such as friction and wear behaviours of the shoes and floors and their interactive impacts on slip resistance performances. Readers are introduced to theoretical concepts and models and collected evidence on slip resistance properties amongst a range of shoe and floor types and materials under various ambulatory settings. These approaches can be used to develop secure design strategies against fall incidents and provide a great step forward to build safer shoes, floors, and walking/working environments for industries and communities around the world. The book includes many case studies

TitleFibers : History, Production, Properties, Market
Author(s)Veit, Dieter
PublicationCham, 1. Imprint: Springer 2. Springer International Publishing, 2022.
DescriptionXXII, 1040 p. 1265 illus., 698 illus. in color : online resource
Abstract NoteThis textbook covers the production of all relevant natural and man-made fibers, their inner structure, properties, applications, markets and historic development. More than 1,600 photos, maps and sketches complement the text. The properties of important fibers are compared in a large number of tables and graphics to simplify selecting an appropriate fiber for a given application. The Content: Natural fibers: History, production, properties, applications, markets. Chemical fibers: History, production processes, components and machines for the manufacturing of cellulosic and synthetic fibers, properties, applications, markets. Special topics: Metal fibers, carbon nanotubes, biopolymers, optical fibers, high-performance fibers, fiber testing etc. Target Group: Students in textile and clothing technology in all course programs Experts in the textile and clothing industry and fiber and textile research. The Author: Dieter Veit has studied mechanical engineering with a major in textiles at RWTH Aachen University. After completing his Dr.-Ing., he worked in man-made fiber plant engineering and since 2001 he has been giving lectures on natural and man-made fibers at RWTH Aachen University. He authored and edited several books on textile technology and artificial intelligence. This book is a translation of an original German edition. The translation was done with the help of artificial intelligence (machine translation by the service DeepL.com). A subsequent human revision was done primarily in terms of content, so that the book will read stylistically differently from a conventional translation
