TitleLinear Algebra for Physics
Author(s)Papadopoulos, Nikolaos A;Scheck, Florian
PublicationCham, 1. Imprint: Springer 2. Springer International Publishing, 2024.
DescriptionXVIII, 401 p. 24 illus : online resource
Abstract NoteThis textbook provides a full treatment of Linear Algebra devoted to undergraduate and graduate physics students. Although the mathematical level is similar to the corresponding mathematical textbooks in regard to definitions, propositions and proofs, it adopts a language and approach more attuned to the reader???s familiarity with physics lectures and physics textbooks. A distinctive feature is the emphasis placed on the significance of bases within a vector space. As a result, students gain a deeper understanding of how vector indices, despite their abundance, serve not as enemies but as friends since they give additional information about the mathematical objects being used, and facilitate access to tensor formalism. The book offers numerous worked examples and exercises with solution hints to deepen this knowledge

TitlePseudo-Hermitian Random Matrices
Author(s)Pato, Mauricio Porto
PublicationCham, 1. Imprint: Springer 2. Springer Nature Switzerland, 2024.
DescriptionXVII, 178 p. 58 illus., 49 illus. in color : online resource
Abstract NoteThis book is a comprehensive guide to pseudo-Hermitian random matrices, their properties, and their role in many models that are relevant to physical processes. The book starts by showing how the concept of pseudo-Hermiticity emerged from studies of PT-symmetric systems which aroused the interest of the random matrix theory community. The chapters that follow discuss the consequences of the pseudo-Hermitian condition to the eigen-decomposition of non-Hermitian matrices, and an investigation of pseudo-Hermitian random matrices in tridiagonal form, discussing the scenario with real eigenvalues, and the appearance of complex eigenvalues generated by unbound and non-positive metrics. Subsequently, the author introduces pseudo-Hermitian Gaussian matrices and their properties including characteristic polynomials, and statistical properties of their eigenvalues. Finally, in the last chapter, the time invariance of the metric is upended and a pseudo-Hermitian model with a time dependent metricis constructed to discuss the time evolution of entangled states

TitleA Quantum Computation Workbook
Author(s)Choi, Mahn-Soo
PublicationCham, 1. Imprint: Springer 2. Springer International Publishing, 2022.
DescriptionX, 436 p. 135 illus., 31 illus. in color : online resource
Abstract NoteTeaching quantum computation and information is notoriously difficult, because it requires covering subjects from various fields of science, organizing these subjects consistently in a unified way despite their tendency to favor their specific languages, and overcoming the subjects??? abstract and theoretical natures, which offer few examples of actual realizations. In this book, we have organized all the subjects required to understand the principles of quantum computation and information processing in a manner suited to physics, mathematics, and engineering courses as early as undergraduate studies. In addition, we provide a supporting package of quantum simulation software from Wolfram Mathematica, specialists in symbolic calculation software. Throughout the book???s main text, demonstrations are provided that use the software package, allowing the students to deepen their understanding of each subject through self-practice. Readers can change the code so as to experiment with their own ideas and contemplate possible applications. The information in this book reflects many years of experience teaching quantum computation and information. The quantum simulation-based demonstrations and the unified organization of the subjects are both time-tested and have received very positive responses from the students who have experienced them

TitleLinear algebra
Author(s)Kenneth Hoffman ;Ray Kunze
Edition2nd. ed.
PublicationNew Delhi, PHI Learning, 2014.
Descriptionviii, 407p.
Abstract NoteA comprehensive treatment of the subject. How it differs from the version: The first part of the book contains more examples concerning linear equations and computations with matrices. In addition, there are more problems of an elementary nature designed to clarify the basic computational aspects of the subject. The material on characteristic values, characteristic vectors, and diagonalization of matrices is reorganized so that the elementary and geometrically intuitive concepts are presented first.

TitleIntroduction to computational linear algebra
Author(s)Nabil Nassif;Jocelyne Erhel;Bernard Philippe
PublicationBoca Raton, CRC Press, 2015.
Descriptionxxiv, 235p.
Abstract NoteBook presents classroom-tested material on computational linear algebra and its application to numerical solutions of partial and ordinary differential equations. The book is designed for senior undergraduate students in mathematics and engineering as well as first-year graduate students in engineering and computational science. The text first introduces BLAS operations of types 1, 2, and 3 adapted to a scientific computer environment, specifically MATLAB. It next covers the basic mathematical tools needed in numerical linear algebra and discusses classical material on Gauss decompositions as well as LU and Choleskys factorizations of matrices. The text then shows how to solve linear least squares problems, provides a detailed numerical treatment of the algebraic eigenvalue problem, and discusses (indirect) iterative methods to solve a system of linear equations. The final chapter illustrates how to solve discretized sparse systems of linear equations. Each chapter ends with exercises and computer projects.
