Author(s)Svanberg, Sune
PublicationCham, 1. Imprint: Springer 2. Springer International Publishing, 2022.
DescriptionXX, 686 p. 468 illus., 61 illus. in color : online resource
Abstract NoteThis textbook delivers a comprehensive review of modern spectroscopy encompassing a plethora of various X-ray, photoelectron, optical and laser, as well as radiofrequency and microwave spectroscopic techniques. On the fundamental side, it focuses on physical principles and the impact of spectroscopy on our understanding of the building blocks of matter, while in the area of applications, particular attention is given to those in chemical analysis, photochemistry, surface characterization, environmental and medical diagnostics, remote sensing at short and long ranges, and astrophysics. It features detailed discussion of laser cooling and trapping, Bose???Einstein condensation, ultra-fast spectroscopy, high-power laser???matter interaction, spectroscopy and imaging in astronomy, and various spectroscopic aspects of laser medicine. This thoroughly updated and significantly expanded 5th edition of Svanberg???s Atomic and Molecular Spectroscopy includes a new section on the interplay of optical spectroscopy and multispectral imaging, as well as new coverage of laser-spectroscopic applications to cultural heritage monitoring, ecology, optical mammography, and photoacoustic tomography. For newcomers to the field, it introduces a new section on the fundamentals of quantum mechanics, providing a brief primer to those students without formal experience in the subject. Based on the author???s 50-year career lecturing on spectroscopy and its interdisciplinary applications, the book features over 100 chapter-end questions and close to 3000 references, offering a wealth of meticulously curated experience and pedagogical insight to graduate and advanced undergraduate students throughout physics, chemistry, biology, and materials science

TitleAtomic and Molecular Spectroscopy : Basic Aspects and Practical Applications
Author(s)Svanberg, Sune
PublicationBerlin, Heidelberg, Springer Berlin Heidelberg, 1991.
DescriptionXI, 405 p : online resource
Abstract NoteAtomic and molecular spectroscopy has provided basic information leading to the development of quantum mechanics and to the understanding of the building blocks of matter. It continues to provide further insight into the statics and dynamics of the microcosmos, and provides the ??means for test?? ing new concepts and computational methods. The results of atomic and molecular spectroscopy are of great importance in astrophysics, plasma and laser physics. The rapidly growing field of spectroscopic applications has made considerable impact on many disciplines, including medicine, envi?? ronmental protection, chemical processing and energy research. In particu?? lar, the techniques of electron and laser spectroscopy, the subjects of the 1981 Nobel prize in physics, have contributed much to the analytical poten?? tial of spectroscopy. This textbook on Atomic and Molecular Spectroscopy has been pre?? pared to provide an overview of modern spectroscopic methods. It is in?? tended to serve as a text for a course on the subject for final-year under?? graduate physics students or graduate students. It should also be useful for students of astrophysics and chemistry. The text has evolved from courses on atomic and molecular spectroscopy given by the author since 1975 at Chalmers University of Technology and at the Lund Institute of Technol?? ogy. References are given to important books and review articles which of different aspects of atomic and molecular allow more detailed studies spectroscopy. No attempt has been made to cover all important references, nor have priority aspects been systematically considered

TitleLaser Spectroscopy VIII : Proceedings of the Eighth International Conference, ??re, Sweden, June 22???26, 1987
Author(s)Persson, Willy;Svanberg, Sune
PublicationBerlin, Heidelberg, Springer Berlin Heidelberg, 1987.
DescriptionXX, 479 p. 49 illus : online resource
Abstract NoteThe Eighth International Conference on Laser Spectroscopy (EICOLS '87) was held at the Sunwing Hotel in A.re, Sweden, June 22-26; 1987. Fol?? lowing the traditions ef its predecessors at Vail, Megeve, Jackson Lake, Rottach-Egern, Jasper Park, Interlaken and Maui the intent of EICOLS '87 was to provide a forum for active scientists to meet in an informal at?? mosphere to discuss recent developments in laser spectroscopy. The scenic and remote location of the conference venue greatly stimulated a lively and relaxed exchange of information and ideas. The conference was attended by 227 scientists from 20 countries includ?? ing Australia, Austria, Canada, the People's Republic of China, Denmark, Finland, France, the Federal Repulic of Germany, Israel, Italy, Japan, The Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, the Soviet Union, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and the United States. The scientific program included 14 topical sessions with 50 invited talks, ranging in length from 20 to 40 minutes. About 70 additional in?? vited contributions were presented in two evening poster sessions. A third evening session included 4 oral and 18 poster post-deadline presentations
