TitleGalileo and Satellite Navigation
Author(s)De Angelis, Alessandro
PublicationCham, 1. Imprint: Springer 2. Springer Nature Switzerland, 2024.
DescriptionIX, 73 p. 17 illus., 9 illus. in color : online resource
Abstract NoteThis book explores the Galilean method for geolocation, placing it in historical and astronomical context. It bridges the techniques developed by the Greeks and medieval astronomers with later innovations like precision clocks, 20th-century wireless technology, and space-based navigation. The primary source is the twenty-volume National Edition of the Works of Galileo (published 1890-1909 by Antonio Favaro) and the update edited by Michele Camerota and Patrizia Ruffo in 2019, which includes previously unpublished documents on Galileo's negotiations with the Spanish government for selling his longitude-determining method at sea. This book inspired the 2024 "International Research Day in the World," focused on geolocation, organized by the Italian Permanent Delegation to International Organizations in Paris. In collaboration with Museo Galileo in Florence and Sorbonne Universit??, the event featured the exhibition ???Galileo and Satellite Navigation,??? showcased at the Pierre et Marie Curie Campus in Paris (June 13-28, 2024), and later at the Italian Institutes of Culture in Prague and Amsterdam, and at the Perimeter Institute in Waterloo, Canada

TitleMathematical and Physical Fundamentals of Navigation and Positioning with Earth's Natural Fields
Author(s)Yan, Lei;Li, An;Ji, Wanfeng;Li, Yang
PublicationSingapore, 1. Imprint: Springer 2. Springer Nature Singapore, 2024.
DescriptionXIX, 430 p. 263 illus., 110 illus. in color : online resource
Abstract NoteThis book covers various fields relevant to navigation, including Earth's magnetic field, gravity field, topography, celestial polarization field, electrostatic field, and relativistic celestial field effects. It introduces the principles and applications of navigation positioning using various natural field navigation and terrain-assisted methods, including gravity field navigation positioning, geomagnetic field navigation positioning, terrain-assisted navigation positioning, polarization field navigation positioning, electrostatic field navigation positioning, and relativistic effect verification. This book comprehensively introduces the algorithm principles and engineering implementation approaches, providing basic theoretical support for precision navigation positioning and deep space exploration. Based on the principles of gravity, geomagnetic, and terrain-assisted navigation positioning, corresponding to the universal gravitational force and Earth's rotation in Newtonian mechanics, it combines polarization field navigation positioning with the energy field effect of solar incident light waves, as well as electrostatic field navigation positioning with relativistic effect verification. This forms a relatively complete theoretical technical system and abstracts the mathematical essence of each link in the geomagnetic, gravity, and terrain navigation positioning systems. Taking mechanism exploration and algorithm implementation as the basic approach, it has confirmed the theoretical correctness and practical feasibility of natural field navigation positioning through verification with actual measurement data. This book is mainly targeted at professionals, researchers, students, and readers interested in deep space, deep Earth, deep sea, and polar exploration, as well as those working in the field of navigation positioning. It is of reference value in deep space, deep Earth, and deep sea exploration

TitleAntenna Systems for Modern Wireless Devices
Author(s)Koul, Shiban K;Swapna, S;Karthikeya, G. S
PublicationSingapore, 1. Imprint: Springer 2. Springer Nature Singapore, 2024.
DescriptionXXIV, 327 p. 237 illus., 200 illus. in color : online resource
Abstract NoteThis book presents up-to-date information about WLAN antenna designs for students, researchers, and professionals who want to design radiating systems to be deployed for practical coverage. The book primarily focuses on pattern diversity antennas. Pattern diversity antennas are very vital in wireless communication. High correlation between multiple signals can result in low data throughput which can be solved by using antennas with pattern diversity. Beam scanning antennas and their variants are also described in detail. Pattern diversity antenna systems with multiport feeds are also comprehensively discussed in this book. For a multiport system to maintain a reasonable link budget, equal antenna gains are preferred for the required antenna coverage. The book further describes the latest techniques to enhance and equalize the antenna gain within a compact radiating system. With increasing demand for faster connectivity with minimum path loss, the demand for high-gain antennas is rapidly increasing. Thereby a detailed discussion on gain enhancement with the latest high-gain antenna designs is requisite while describing WLAN antennas. Some antenna designs discussed in the book are based on additive manufacturing for their design and fabrication. Additive manufacturing is a much sought-after technology today that allows rapid development of antennas at an affordable cost. Many recent WLAN antennas make use of this technology to develop versatile antenna designs. Finally, the book includes a section on wide-band antenna designs. Antenna designs that reduce the scanning loss are also discussed.

PublicationSingapore, 1. Imprint: Springer 2. Springer Nature Singapore, 2024.
DescriptionVII, 123 p. 44 illus., 34 illus. in color : online resource
Abstract NoteThe nonlinear optical spectrum signal technology is a new type of optical characterization technology owing to its non-invasiveness and good biocompatibility. This book highlights a comprehensive introduction to the Stimulated Raman scattering (SRS), Anti-Stokes Raman Spectroscopy (CARS), Two-photon Excited Fluorescence (TPEF) and Second Harmonic Generation signals (SHG) technologies. The four types of nonlinear optical signals technologies, especially two-dimensional and three-dimensional imaging, have great application potential in physics, materials science, chemistry and biomedicine. The book covers principles, theoretical calculation methods, signal measurement methods and imaging specific methods. The theoretical part starts from the basics of nonlinear optics and the relationship with strong light, and gradually transitions to theoretical calculation methods for specific optical signals. it combines the classical theory and the quantum theory to help readers develop a thorough understanding of the technologies. The book is a good reference for graduate students majored in physics and chemistry and for researchers working on optics, photonics and materials science.

TitleControllable Nonlinear Waves in Graded-Index Waveguides (GRIN)
Author(s)Raju, Thokala Soloman
PublicationSingapore, 1. Imprint: Springer 2. Springer Nature Singapore, 2024.
DescriptionX, 77 p. 36 illus., 35 illus. in color : online resource
Abstract NoteThis book highlights the dynamical behavior of self-similar waves in graded-index waveguides in (1+1)-dimensions and (2+1)-dimensions. The mechanism to control these optical similaritons by tailoring the tapering profile is presented. Various nonlinear waves like rogons, butterfly-shaped, and dromion-like waves and their controllable behavior are discussed in detail. The phenomenon of unbreakable Parity-Time symmetry of some of these waves has been delineated for different variety of solvable potentials. Compression of these exotic waves has been demonstrated for dispersion decreasing fiber and periodic management of dispersion and nonlinearity parameters. Competing cubic-quintic nonlinearity scenario and its potential implication on the dynamics of these similaritons has been described in detail. Symbiotic self-similar rogue waves have been discussed in (2+1)-dimensional garded-index waveguide. The book also includes numerical simulations that complement these analytical insights
