Title | Advances in stellar interferometry: Proceedings of a technical conference held at Orlando, Florida, USA during May 25-30, 2006 |
Author(s) | John D. Monnier (ed.);Markus Scholler (ed.);William C. Danchi (ed.) |
Publication | Bellingham, WA, USA, SPIE - The International Society for Optical Engineering, 2006. |
Description | xiv, - |
Series | (Proceedings of SPIE; 6268) |
Abstract Note | These proceedings are dedicated to the Grand Interferometre a 2 Telescopes (GI2T) and the Infrared-Optical Telescope Array (IOTA) Interferometers. After more than a decade of observations and countless contributions to interferometry, these facilities are shutting down in 2006. These interferometers have shown the power of clever ideas and hard work, having made groundbreaking contributions to stellar astronomy within very modest budgets.
This year also marked the founding of the SPIE Dissertation Prize in Interferometry, funded by a $1000 donation from New Focus. The co-winners this year were announced during the meeting : Antoine Merand (Observatoire de Paris, Meudon) and Matthew Muterspaugh (California Institute of Technology). |

Title | Astronomical site evaluation in the visible and radio range : IAU technical workshop : Proceedings of a workshop held at Cadi Ayyad University, Marrakech, Morocco, 13-17 November 2000 : IAU Technical Workshop |
Author(s) | Jean Vernin (ed.);Zouhair Benkhaldoun (ed.);Casiana Munoz-Tunon (ed.) |
Publication | California, Astronomical Society of the Pacific, 2002. |
Description | xxiv, 615p. |
Series | (Astronomical Society of the Pacific Conference Series; 266) |
Abstract Note | Dedicated to Rodney Marks (1968 - 2000) |
Contents Note | The aim of this workshop - the first on this subject for many years - was to review the state of the art in site testing methods and instruments across the entire ground-based optical, infrared and (sub)mm wavelength ranges. Capabilities, commonalities between methods will be clarified with a view to establish lists of necessary and sufficient equipment for site testing at various ambition levels as well as the corresponding data reduction, calibration, and standardization procedures. Links and synergisms between ground and space based techniques has explored with a view to mapping out a strategy for identifying additional high-quality observatory sites, suitably distributed in geographical longitude and latitude.
This meeting led to the creation of an International Scientific Committee. |
