Title | Absolute Therapeutic Medical Physics Review : Questions and Detailed Answers |
Author(s) | Heard, Malcolm;Boopathy, Raghavendiran;Thomas, Jr., Charles R |
Publication | Cham, 1. Imprint: Springer
2. Springer International Publishing, 2022. |
Description | X, 129 p. 21 illus., 20 illus. in color : online resource |
Abstract Note | This book is a comprehensive study guide for the therapeutic medical physicist pursuing initial board certification and those participating in continuing education. Medical physics is an evolving field as a result of rapidly developing technology and the focus on evidence-based care in radiation oncology. Recently, the certification body has mandated an online question and answer system to allow practicing physicist to receive continuing education credits. The questions are designed to test the walking around knowledge of the clinical physicist. Many physicists specialize in specific treatment modalities, thus limiting their exposure to other areas of clinical physics. This handbook allows these physicists to stay up-to-date and satisfy the requirements of the certification body. The text is divided into 2 main sections: Questions & Detailed Answers. Question chapters are divided by the ABR content guide and are composed of 15-35 questions. Questions are primarily multiple choice in nature with 4-5 possible answers, but there are also matching questions. Questions review the scope of medical physics, spanning from medical physics theories to day-to-day applications in clinic. The questions and detailed answers will be set in such a way to address most relevant and commonly tested topics of dosimetry, treatment machine, treatment planning, protection, radiobiology, radiation safety and professionalism and ethics. The questions will most closely fit to what is done in clinical practice. Detailed answers not only explain the correct answer, but also discuss the erroneous remaining answers with the appropriate citation of the most recent protocols, guidelines, publications and task group recommendations. This is an ideal study guide for therapeutic medical physicists in training and in practice, who need to pass a written board examination or prepare themselves for their continuing education requirements |

Title | Computational Molecular Magnetic Resonance Imaging for Neuro-oncology |
Author(s) | Dada, Michael O;Awojoyogbe, Bamidele O |
Publication | Cham, Springer International Publishing, 2021. |
Description | XXXI, 389 p. 117 illus., 109 illus. in color : online resource |
Abstract Note | Based on the analytical methods and the computer programs presented in this book, all that may be needed to perform MRI tissue diagnosis is the availability of relaxometric data and simple computer program proficiency. These programs are easy to use, highly interactive and the data processing is fast and unambiguous. Laboratories (with or without sophisticated facilities) can perform computational magnetic resonance diagnosis with only T1 and T2 relaxation data. The results have motivated the use of data to produce data-driven predictions required for machine learning, artificial intelligence (AI) and deep learning for multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary research. Consequently, this book is intended to be very useful for students, scientists, engineers, the medial personnel and researchers who are interested in developing new concepts for deeper appreciation of computational magnetic Resonance Imaging for medical diagnosis, prognosis, therapy and management of tissue diseases |

Title | Quantitative Analysis in Nuclear Medicine Imaging |
Author(s) | Zaidi, Habib |
Publication | New York, NY, Springer US, 2006. |
Description | XI, 583 p. 166 illus., 56 illus. in color : online resource |
Abstract Note | This book provides a review of image analysis techniques as they are applied in the field of diagnostic and therapeutic nuclear medicine. Driven in part by the remarkable sophistication of nuclear medicine instrumentation and - crease in computing power and its ready and inexpensive availability, this is a relatively new yet rapidly expanding field. Likewise, although the use of nuclear imaging for diagnosis and therapy has origins dating back almost to the pioneering work of Dr G. de Hevesy, quantitative imaging has only recently emerged as a promising approach for diagnosis and therapy of many diseases. An effort has, therefore, been made to place the reviews provided in this book in a broader context. The effort to do this is reflected by the inclusion of introductory chapters that address basic principles of nuclear medicine instrumentation and dual-modality imaging, followed by overview of issues that are closely related to quantitative nuclear imaging and its potential role in diagnostic and therapeutic applications. A brief overview of each chapter is provided below. Chapter 1 presents a general overview of nuclear medicine imaging physics and instrumentation including planar scintigraphy, single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) and positron emission tomography (PET). Nowadays, patients??? diagnosis and therapy is rarely done without the use of imaging technology. As such, imaging considerations are incorporated in almost every chapter of the book. The development of dual-modality - aging systems is an emerging research field, which is addressed in chapter 2 |

Title | Biophysics and Cancer |
Author(s) | Nicolini, Claudio |
Publication | New York, NY, Springer US, 1986. |
Description | 480 p : online resource |
Abstract Note | Since the early times of the Greek philosophers Leucippus and Democritus, and later of the Roman philosopher Lucretius, a simple, fundamental idea emerged that brought the life sciences into the realm of the physical sciences. Atoms, after various interactions, were assumed to acquire stable configurations that corresponded either to the living or to the inanimate world. This simple and unitary theory, which has evolved in successive steps to our present time, remarkably maintained its validity despite several centuries of alternative vicissitudes, and is the foundation of modern biophysics. Some of the recent developments of this ancient idea are the discovery of the direct relationship between spatial structures and chemical activity of such molecules as methane and benzene, and the later discovery of the three-dimensional structure of double-helical DNA, and of its relationship with biological activity. The relationship between the structure of various macromolecules and the function of living cells was one of the most striking advancements of modern science, obtained by the cooperation of physicists, chemists, mathematicians, engineers, biologists, and physicians. This crossing of the life and physical sciences has given rise to new and exciting frontiers, and to a new synthesis where there is a frequent interconnection of expertise, and where there is an exchange of roles among traditionally separated soft and hard sciences. Even if knowledge is still transmitted to new generations within univer?? sities as separate disciplines, new knowledge is acquired today in the laboratory by truly interdisciplinary teams |

Title | Bladder Tumors and other Topics in Urological Oncology |
Author(s) | Pavone-Macaluso, M |
Publication | New York, NY, Springer US, 1980. |
Description | XVI, 528 p. 47 illus : online resource |
Abstract Note | This volume is a report of the proceedings of the Second International Urological Course held in the Ettore Majorana Centre in Erice, Sicily from the 4-8 November 1978. The meeting was sponsored by the Urological Group of the EORTC (European Organisation for Research in the Treatment of Cancer), the WHO Collaborating Centre for Bladder Cancer, the European Urological Association, the Italian Research Council (CNR) , Italian League against Tumours, Italian Government and Regional Sicilian Government. Contributions were accepted on the understanding that the editors could make certain changes leading towards a uniformity of style but accepting as a priority the importance of early publication, if necessary at the expense of stylistic perfection. Editorial notes have been inserted at infrequent intervals, sometimes to summarise discussions and at others in an attempt to clarify certain issues or to highlight conflicting opinions. Although the work has been divided amongst the editors and co?? editors it is only proper to acknowledge that the major role in collating and in correcting much of the material has fallen on Mrs MAske who has also typed the manuscript. We should also like to acknowledge the kindness of the Yorkshire Regional Cancer Organisation who allowed Mrs Aske to devote much of her time to this work, Miss S Barrowby who has also given considerable secretarial assistance and the Department of Medical Photography, st James's University Hospital, Leeds whose staff are responsible for many of the illustrations |
