Author(s) | Clark, John W;Ristig, Manfred L |
Publication | Berlin, Heidelberg, Springer Berlin Heidelberg, 1997. |
Description | XI, 196 p. 21 illus : online resource |
Abstract Note | The accomplishments and the available expertise of scientists working on spin systems, lattice gauge models, and quantum liquids and solids has culminated in an extraordinary opportunity for rapid and efficient development of realistic strategies and algorithms of ab initio theoretical analysis of conventional and exotic condensed-matter systems. This volume presents the latest results in the interdisciplinary field of lattice many-body systems. These include magnetism and phase transitions and lattice gauge problems in quantum field theory. Also treated are strongly correlated systems that help to unify many-body problems in solid-state physics, crystallography, and materials sciences and that helped their quantitative understanding |

Author(s) | Balslev, Erik |
Publication | Berlin, Heidelberg, Springer Berlin Heidelberg, 1992. |
Description | VIII, 264 p : online resource |
Abstract Note | In these proceedings basic questions regarding n-body Schr|dinger operators are dealt with, such as asymptotic completeness of systems with long-range potentials (including Coulomb), a new proof of completeness for short-range potentials, energy asymptotics of large Coulomb systems, asymptotic neutrality of polyatomic molecules. Other contributions deal withdifferent types of problems, such as quantum stability, Schr|dinger operators on a torus and KAM theory, semiclassical theory, time delay, radiation conditions, magnetic Stark resonances, random Schr|dinger operators and stochastic spectral analysis. The volume presents the results in such detail that it could well serve as basic literature for seminar work |

Publication | Berlin, Heidelberg, Springer Berlin Heidelberg, 1995. |
Description | XIV, 346 p. 47 illus : online resource |
Abstract Note | The book covers the basics and some generalizations of Monte Carlo methods and its applications to discrete and field theoretic models. It covers the study of nonequilibrium models of granular media by computer simulation and pattern formation. Furthermore, the lectures deal with details of phenomena such as chaos, segregation, pattern formation and phase transitions, convection, fluidification, density waves, surface reaction and growth, spread of epidemics, acoustics, deformation, etc. The book addresses students in physics and scientific computation. It should be a valuable reference work for researchers as well |

Title | Quantum Theory of Many-Body Systems : Techniques and Applications |
Author(s) | Zagoskin, Alexandre |
Publication | New York, NY, Springer New York, 1998. |
Description | XV, 229 p : online resource |
Abstract Note | Intended for graduate students in physics and related fields, this text is a self contained treatment of the physics of many-body systems from the point of view of condensed matter. The approach, quite traditionally, uses the mathematical formalism of quasiparticles and Green's functions. In particular, it covers all the important diagram techniques for normal and superconducting systems, including the zero- temperature perturbation theory, and the Matsubara, Keldysh, and Nambu -Gor'kov formalisms. The aim is not to be exhaustive, but to present just enough detail to enable the student to follow the current research literature or to apply the techniques to new problems. Many of the examples are drawn from mesoscopic physics, which deals with systems small enough that quantum coherence is maintained throughout their volume, and which therefore provides an ideal testing ground for many-body theories. The book begins by introducing the Green's function for one-particle systems (using Feynman path integrals), general perturbation theory, and second quantization. It then turns to the usual zero-temperature formalism, discussing the properties and physical meaning of the Green's function for many-body systems and then developing the diagram techniques of perturbation theory. The theory is extended to finite temperatures, including a discussion of the Matsubara formalism as well as the Keldysh technique for essentially nonequilibrium systems. The final chapter is devoted to applications of the techniques to superconductivity, incuding discussions of the superconducting phase transition, elementary excitations, transport, Andreev reflections, and Josephson junctions. Problems at the end of each chapter help to guide learning an to |
