TitleLayeredness in Materials : Characteristics, Strategies and Applications
Author(s)Majid, Abdul;Jabeen, Alia
PublicationSingapore, 1. Imprint: Springer 2. Springer Nature Singapore, 2023.
DescriptionXI, 146 p. 52 illus., 48 illus. in color : online resource
Abstract NoteThis book provides information on the characteristics, strategies and applications of layered materials. It sheds light on layerdness-dependent properties of Van der Waals solids for potential applications. The properties of various layered materials prepared using different experimental strategies are described. Further, the first-principles calculations are given to devise a strategy to investigate layeredness in materials. The structural, thermal, mechanical, lattice vibronic, electronic, optical and carrier transport characteristics of the layered materials are elaborated in detail. This book provides an updated source of information on layered materials for students, researchers, and professionals

TitleLinear Electrodynamic Response of Topological Semimetals : Experimental Results Versus Theoretical Predicitons
Author(s)Pronin, Artem V
PublicationCham, 1. Imprint: Springer 2. Springer Nature Switzerland, 2023.
DescriptionXI, 134 p. 69 illus., 66 illus. in color : online resource
Abstract NoteThis book provides a model description for the electromagnetic response of topological nodal semimetals and summarizes recent experimental findings in these systems. Specifically, it discusses various types of topological semimetals ??? Dirac, Weyl, nodal-line, triple-point, and multifold semimetals ??? and provides description for the characteristic features of the linear electrodynamic response for all these types of materials. Topological semimetals possess peculiar bulk electronic band structure, which leads to unusual electrodynamic response. For example, the low-energy inter-band optical conductivity of nodal semimetals is supposed to demonstrate power-law frequency dependence and the intra- and inter-band contributions to the conductivity are often mixed. Further, the magneto-optical response is also unusual, because of the non-equidistant spacing between the Landau levels. Finally, in semimetals with chiral electronic bands, e.g. in Weyl semimetals, thesimultaneous application of parallel magnetic and electric fields leads to the chiral anomaly, i.e. to a misbalance between the electrons with diffident chiralities. This misbalance affects the electrodynamics properties of the material and can be detected optically. All these points are addressed here in detail. The book is written for a wide audience of physicists, working in the field of topological condensed matter physics. It gives a pedagogical introduction enabling graduate students and non-experts to familiarize themselves with the subject

TitleSolid State Batteries : Design, Challenges and Market Demands
Author(s)Palaniyandy, Nithyadharseni;Abhilash, K. P;Nalini, B
PublicationCham, 1. Imprint: Springer 2. Springer International Publishing, 2022.
DescriptionVIII, 295 p. 105 illus., 102 illus. in color : online resource
Abstract NoteThis book offers a comprehensive analysis of novel design strategies in higher energy solid-state lithium batteries. It describes synthesis and experimental techniques to characterize the physical, chemical and electrochemical properties of the electrode and electrolytes. The book reports on electrochemical measurements of conductivity and related parameters in solid electrolytes and its interfaces. It also presents various technologies that have been used for the fabrication of all-solid-state lithium-ion batteries such as thin-film, 3D printing (additive manufacturing) and atomic layer deposition. A large part of the text focus on the description on the complete functioning and challenges with the electrochemistry of the electrodes and solid electrolyte interfaces. The book also supplies valuable insight into potential growth opportunities in this exciting market and cost-effective design tactics in solid-state assemblies.
