Title | Pulsed Electrical Discharges for Medicine and Biology : Techniques, Processes, Applications |
Author(s) | Kolikov, Victor;Rutberg, Philip |
Publication | Cham, Springer International Publishing, 2015. |
Description | XVIII, 215 p. 128 illus., 11 illus. in color : online resource |
Abstract Note | This book presents the application of pulsed electrical discharges in water and water dispersions of metal nanoparticles in medicine (surgery, dentistry, and oncology), biology, and ecology. The intensive electrical and shock waves represent a novel technique to destroy viruses and this way to?? prepare anti-virus vaccines. The method of pulsed electrical discharges in water allows to decontaminate water from almost all known bacteria and spores of fungi being present in human beings. The nanoparticles used are not genotoxic and mutagenic. This book is useful for researchers and graduate students |

Title | Fowler-Nordheim Field Emission : Effects in Semiconductor Nanostructures |
Author(s) | Bhattacharya, Sitangshu;Ghatak, Kamakhya Prasad |
Publication | Berlin, Heidelberg, Springer Berlin Heidelberg, 2012. |
Description | XXII, 338 p : online resource |
Abstract Note | This monograph solely presents the Fowler-Nordheim field emission (FNFE) from semiconductors and their nanostructures. The materials considered are quantum confined non-linear optical, III-V, II-VI, Ge, Te, carbon nanotubes, PtSb2, stressed materials, Bismuth, GaP, Gallium Antimonide, II-V, Bi2Te3, III-V, II-VI, IV-VI and HgTe/CdTe superlattices with graded interfaces and effective mass superlattices under magnetic quantization and quantum wires of the aforementioned superlattices. The FNFE in opto-electronic materials and their quantum confined counterparts is studied in the presence of light waves and intense electric fields on the basis of newly formulated electron dispersion laws that control the studies of such quantum effect devices. The importance of band gap measurements in opto-electronic materials in the presence of external fields is discussed from this perspective. This monograph contains 200 open research problems which form the very core and are useful for Ph. D students and researchers. The book can also serve as a basis for a graduate course on field emission from solids |

Title | The Mie Theory : Basics and Applications |
Author(s) | Hergert, Wolfram;Wriedt, Thomas |
Publication | Berlin, Heidelberg, Springer Berlin Heidelberg, 2012. |
Description | XIV, 259 p : online resource |
Abstract Note | This book presents in a concise way the Mie theory and its current applications. It begins with an overview of current theories, computational methods, experimental techniques, and applications of optics of small particles. There is also some biographic information on Gustav Mie, who published his famous paper on the colour of Gold colloids in 1908. The Mie solution for the light scattering of small spherical particles set the basis for more advanced scattering theories and today there are many methods to calculate light scattering and absorption for practically any shape and composition of particles. The optics of small particles is of interest in industrial, atmospheric, astronomic and other research. The book covers the latest developments in divers fields in scattering theory such as plasmon resonance, multiple scattering and optical force |
