| Contents Note | The year 2001 is remarkable in the history of Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science( IACS). The two important events fell in the same year namely, the 125th year of its existence since its establishment in 1876 by Dr. Mahendra Lal Sircar and the 75th year of publication of Indian Journal of Physics (IJP) since its inception in 1926 by C. V. Raman (Nobel laureate). In order to celebrate both significant events, Special Issues of IJP are being published. The publication of this volume containing Landmark Papers in IJP by the scientists of eminence from the year 1926 in one such step in this direction.
