TitleNonlinear Dynamics : A Concise Introduction Interlaced with Code
Author(s)Datseris, George;Parlitz, Ulrich
PublicationCham, 1. Imprint: Springer 2. Springer International Publishing, 2022.
DescriptionXV, 236 p. 116 illus., 103 illus. in color : online resource
Abstract NoteThis concise and up-to-date textbook provides an accessible introduction to the core concepts of nonlinear dynamics as well as its existing and potential applications. The book is aimed at students and researchers in all the diverse fields in which nonlinear phenomena are important. Since most tasks in nonlinear dynamics cannot be treated analytically, skills in using numerical simulations are crucial for analyzing these phenomena. The text therefore addresses in detail appropriate computational methods as well as identifying the pitfalls of numerical simulations. It includes numerous executable code snippets referring to open source Julia software packages. Each chapter includes a selection of exercises with which students can test and deepen their skills

TitlePhysics and Finance
Author(s)Ziemann, Volker
PublicationCham, Springer International Publishing, 2021.
DescriptionX, 286 p. 65 illus., 43 illus. in color : online resource
Abstract NoteThis book introduces physics students to concepts and methods of finance. Despite being perceived as quite distant from physics, finance shares a number of common methods and ideas, usually related to noise and uncertainties. Juxtaposing the key methods to applications in both physics and finance articulates both differences and common features, this gives students a deeper understanding of the underlying ideas. Moreover, they acquire a number of useful mathematical and computational tools, such as stochastic differential equations, path integrals, Monte-Carlo methods, and basic cryptology. Each chapter ends with a set of carefully designed exercises enabling readers to test their comprehension

TitleStochastic filtering theory: Applications of Mathematics
Author(s)Gopinath Kallianpur
PublicationNew York, Springer-Verlag, 1980.
Descriptionxvi, 316p.
Series(Applications of Mathematics)
Abstract NoteThis book is based on a seminar given at the University of California at Los Angeles in the Spring of 1975. The choice of topics reflects my interests at the time and the needs of the students taking the course. Initially the lectures were written up for publication in the Lecture Notes series. How ever, when I accepted Professor A. V. Balakrishnan's invitation to publish them in the Springer series on Applications of Mathematics it became necessary to alter the informal and often abridged style of the notes and to rewrite or expand much of the original manuscript so as to make the book as self-contained as possible. Even so, no attempt has been made to write a comprehensive treatise on filtering theory, and the book still follows the original plan of the lectures. While this book was in preparation, the two-volume English translation of the work by R. S. Liptser and A. N. Shiryaev has appeared in this series. The first volume and the present book have the same approach to the sub ject, viz. that of martingale theory. Liptser and Shiryaev go into greater detail in the discussion of statistical applications and also consider inter polation and extrapolation as well as filtering.

TitleNonequilibrium statistical physics
Author(s)Gerd Ropke
PublicationWeinheim, Wiley-VCH, 2013.
Descriptionxiii, 382p.
Abstract NoteAuthored by one of the top theoretical physicists in Germany, and a well-known authority in the field, this is the only coherent presentation of the subject suitable for masters and PhD students, as well as postdocs in physics and related disciplines. Starting from a general discussion of the nonequilibrium state, different standard approaches such as master equations, and kinetic and linear response theory, are derived after special assumptions. This allows for an insight into the problems of nonequilibrium physics, a discussion of the limits, and suggestions for improvements. Applications and typical examples are given, as well as fully worked problems (simple to advanced).

TitleStochastic processes in physics and chemistry
Author(s)N. G. Van Kempen
Edition3rd
PublicationNew Delhi, Elsevier Science Publishers, 2007.
Descriptionxvi, 463p.
Abstract NoteThe third edition of Van Kampen's standard work has been revised and updated. The main difference with the second edition is that the contrived application of the quantum master equation in section 6 of chapter XVII has been replaced with a satisfactory treatment of quantum fluctuations. Apart from that throughout the text corrections have been made and a number of references to later developments have been included. From the recent textbooks the following are the most relevant.
