TitleNuclides.net : An Integrated Environment for Computations on Radionuclides and Their Radiation
Author(s)Magill, Joseph
PublicationBerlin, Heidelberg, 1. Imprint: Springer 2. Springer Berlin Heidelberg, 2003.
DescriptionXIII, 271 p : online resource
Abstract NoteThe "Nuclides.net" book describes an integrated environment for computations on radionuclides and their radiation. In addition to providing the necessary background on radionuclides and radiation, the accompanying CD-ROM, for Microsoft Windows operating systems, offers extensive information on the physics and radiology of familiar nuclides. Through an electronic nuclide chart, the user can access codes, via the Internet, for a number of applications which allow the required data to be computed quickly and reliably by means of interactive user guidance. "Nuclides.net" can be used for teaching, research, and for practical applications

TitleRadioactivity Radionuclides Radiation
Author(s)Magill, Joseph;Galy, Jean
PublicationBerlin, Heidelberg, 1. Imprint: Springer 2. Springer Berlin Heidelberg, 2005.
DescriptionVII, 264 p : online resource
Abstract NoteRADIOACTIVITY ??? RADIONUCLIDES ??? RADIATION is suitable for a general audience interested in topical environmental and human health radiological issues such as radiation exposure in aircraft, food sterilisation, nuclear medicine, radon gas, radiation dispersion devices ("dirty bombs")??? It leads the interested reader through the three Rs of nuclear science, to the forefront of research and developments in the field. The book is also suitable for students and professionals in the related disciplines of nuclear and radiochemistry, health physics, environmental sciences, nuclear and astrophysics. Recent developments in the areas of exotic decay modes (bound beta decay of ???bare??? or fully ionized nuclei), laser transmutation, nuclear forensics, radiation hormesis and the LNT hypothesis are covered. Atomic mass data for over 3000 nuclides from the most recent (2003) evaluation are included

TitlePhotoacoustic and Photothermal Phenomena II : Proceedings of the 6th International Topical Meeting, Baltimore, Maryland, July 31???August 3, 1989
Author(s)Murphy, John C;Maclachlan Spicer, Jane W;Aamodt, Leonard C;Royce, Barrie S.H
PublicationBerlin, Heidelberg, 1. Imprint: Springer 2. Springer Berlin Heidelberg, 1990.
DescriptionXXI, 549 p. 175 illus., 15 illus. in color : online resource
Abstract NotePhotothermal science continues to be an area of rapid development and active investigation, as is demonstrated by this volume. The various contributions present fundamental research in materials science, physics, chemistry, biology, and medicine, as well as important applications of photothermal techniques in nondestructive evaluation, aeronomy and pollution control, and other areas. The topics treated include measurements of spectral properties of gases, the theory of thermally generated elastic waves, a method of monitoring local surface displacements, materials characterization and nondestructive evaluation of materials, studies of the dynamics of primary photophysical processes, fast energy exchange at surfaces and at interfaces (e.g. in medicine and photobiology), thermal EXAFS and XANES applied to metals and semiconductors, and imaging of magnetic materials using microwave sources

TitleCondensed Matter Theories
Author(s)Arponen, Jouko;Bishop, R.F;Manninen, Matti
PublicationNew York, NY, 1. Imprint: Springer 2. Springer US, 1988.
DescriptionXII, 402 p : online resource
Abstract NoteThis book is the third volume in an approximately annual series which comprises the proceedings of the International Workshops on Condensed Matter Theories. The first of these meetings took place in 1977 in Sao Paulo, Brazil, and successive workshops have been held in Trieste, Italy (1978), Buenos Aires, Argentina (1979), Caracas, Venezuela (1980), Mexico City, Mexico (1981), St. Louis, USA (1982), Altenberg, Federal Republic of Germany (1983), Granada, Spain (1984), San Francisco, USA (1985), and Argonne, USA (1986). The present volume contains the proceedings of the Eleventh Workshop which took place in Qulu, Finland during the period 27 July - 1 August, 1987. The original motivation and the historical evolution of the series of Workshops have been amply described in the preface to the first volume in the present series. An important objective throughout has been to work against the ever-present trend for physics to fragment into increasingly narrow fields of specialisation, between which communication is difficult. The Workshops have traditionally sought to emphasise the unity of physics. By bringing together scientists working in many different areas of condensed matter theory, for the dual purpose of fostering collaborations between them and promoting the exchange of ideas between various disciplines, a common language has been exposed and developed. The Editor of the first volume in the series, F. B

TitleLand and its Uses ??? Actual and Potential : An Environmental Appraisal
Author(s)Last, F. T;Hotz, M. C. B;Bell, B. G
PublicationNew York, NY, 1. Imprint: Springer 2. Springer US, 1986.
Description610 p : online resource
Abstract NoteDuring its existence the Ecosciences Panel of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation was constantly concerned with (i) the communic?? ation gap between the generators of ecological/environmental infor?? mation and those who use it and (ii) the narrow interpretation of 'environmental' which too frequently was taken as being synonymous with pollution. Because of this concern, and because the panel recognised that land-use is perhaps the overriding facet of environmental policy it was decided to arrange the Seminar recorded in this volume :- Land and its Uses : Actual and Potential An Environmental Appraisal The development of this Seminar was chaired by Professor F. T. Last who was enthusiastically supported by B. G. Bell (U.K.), Drs S. Bie (Norway), 0. W. Heal (U.K.), R. Herrmann (Federal Republic of Germany), M.C.B.Hotz (formerly of NATO, Belgium, but now in Canada), L. Munn (Canada) and N. Yassoglou (Greece). Together, they decided that the participants should include (i) planners/decision?? makers and (ii) scientists generating ecological/environmental infor?? mation, in the hope that they would gain a better understanding of each others problems and attitudes and as a result identify how information can be prepared in a more usable form
