TitleGalaxies in turmoil: The Active and Starburst Galaxies and The Black holes that Drive them
Author(s)Chris Kitchin
PublicationLondon, Springer-Verlag, 2007.
Descriptionxiii, 298p.
Abstract NoteWritten for amateur astronomers, school and college science students and for those with a more general interest in science, Galaxies in Turmoil provides a readable, non-mathematical account of one of the hottest areas of astronomical research. Galaxies in Turmoil is equally suitable for practical amateur astronomers, or as a text for college courses including galaxies, active galaxies, quasars, deep-space objects and large-scale astronomy, up to the final year of an astrophysics, physics or science degree.

TitleWhere stars are born: Kinematics and photometry of starburst and postburst galaxies
Author(s)Javier Blasco-Herrera
PublicationStockholm, Stockholm University Press, 2012.
Descriptionxi, 120p.
Abstract NoteThe understanding of the formation and evolution of galaxies will not be complete until we understand physical processes that trigger and regulate star formation in them. This work is about star formation on several size scales. It includes the kinematic study of 157 H II regions in the spiral galazy M83, in order to test the relation, if any between luminosity (L) and velocity dispersion(s), indicative of virialization.
