TitleFundamentals of parallel computing
Author(s)Sanjay Razdab
PublicationNew Delhi, Narosa Publishing House, 2014.
Descriptionxv, pp. 1.1-10.6
Abstract NoteWhen we think about processor intensive applications, we think about parallel computing. This book discusses what parallel computing is and how it can be achieved. Parallel computing cannot be achieved by hardware or software alone, but by a combination of these two. At the lowest level, this book describes the operating system characteristics that are necessary to achieve parallelism. At the programming level, we must have an algorithm that maps tasks to different processors and executes them simultaneously. Another important aspect of parallelism is parallel hardware. Parallel hardware has the capability to execute multiple instructions simultaneously. Thus parallel hardware, operating system, and parallel algorithm together form a parallel system capable of achieving parallelism. Computing cost is another aspect of parallel computing. While developing a parallel algorithm, it is necessary to make sure that its cost is optimal. This book discusses all these aspects of parallel computing alongwith cost optimal algorithms with examples to make sure that students get familiar with it. After reading this book a student should have enough knowledge to develop his own parallel algorithm for a given problem.

PublicationNew Delhi, Narosa Publishing House, 2014.
Descriptionx, pp. 1.1-7.39
Abstract NoteMATHEMATICAL THEORY OF GENERAL RELATIVITY is prepared for M. Sc. Students of Mathematics and Physics. The aim of writing this book is to give the reader a feeling for the necessity and beauty of the laws of general relativity. The contents of the book will attract both mathematicians and physicists which provides motivation and applications of many ideas and powerful mathematical methods of modern analysis and differential geometry. An attempt has been made to make the presentation comprehensive, rigorous and yet simple. Most calculations and transformations have been carried out in great detail. KEY FEATURE: Numerous solved examples using the well known mathematical techniques viz., the tensors and the differential forms in each chapter.

TitleStatistical and quantum optics
Author(s)S. Chopra
PublicationNew Delhi, Narosa Publishing House, 2014.
Descriptionx, pp.1.1-14.12
Abstract NoteBook provides a clear, up-to-date and comprehensive introduction to the recent field of modern optics dealing with coherence and fluctuations of light. The first two chapters discuss the statistical frame work needed for later part of the book followed by systematic account of coherence theory with a detailed discussed on photon statistics. Description of quantum theory of coherence is preceded by a introductory chapter on field quantization. A detailed description of non-classical light highlighted by phenomena of anti-bunching, Sub-Poissonian statistics, production and detection of squeezed light and coherent state follows. Next is the discussion on E-P-R paradox on reality, locality and completeness of quantum mechanics bringing out clearly the importance of Bell’s inequalities. The concluding two chapters put forward forcefully the new fundamental concepts based on quantum superposition and entanglement leading to two photon interference, quantum cryptography and teleportation

TitleClassical control systems: Design and implementation
Author(s)Rohan Munasinghe
PublicationNew Delhi, Narosa Publishing House, 2012.
Abstract Notecovering the first course and begins with a presentation of famous historical feedback control systems such as the water clock and flyball speed governor followed by Plant modeling with the use of a RC circuit (electrical) and shock-absorber (mechanical) alongwith feedback control concept using the same two plants. Time-domain and frequency-domain designs are presented using root-locus and Bode methods with Matlab simulations while PID controller design is discussed with reference to compensators (lead, lag, and notch), controller implementation in analog (using OpAmps) and digital (microcontroller) forms. Illustrations and examples are extensively used to help quick and correct understanding of the subject. The examples are based on Matlab simulations of which the codes are freely available at http://www.ent.mrt.ac.lk/~rohan/books/pp5221/index.html.
