Description | XI, 76 p. 75 illus., 68 illus. in color : online resource |
Abstract Note | This thesis treats networks providing quantum computation based on distributed paradigms. Compared to architectures relying on one processor, a network promises to be more scalable and less fault-prone. Developing a distributed system able to provide practical quantum computation comes with numerous challenges, each of which need to be faced with careful analysis in order to create a seamless integration of multiple engineered components. In accordance with hardware technologies, currently under development worldwide, telegates represent the fundamental inter-processor operations. Each telegate consists of several tasks: i) entanglement generation and distribution, ii) local operations, and iii) classical communications. Entanglement generation and distribution is an expensive resource, as it is time-consuming. The primary contribution of this thesis lies in the extensive analysis of some complex scenarios of general interest. We propose numerical models that help to identifythe interdependence between computation and communication. With the support of some of the best tools for reasoning -- i.e. network optimization, circuit manipulation, group theory and ZX-calculus -- we lay out new perspectives on the way a distributed quantum computing system should be developed |

Title | The Physics Behind Electronics |
Author(s) | Ricci, Leonardo;Perinelli, Alessio;Prevedelli, Marco |
Publication | Cham, 1. Imprint: Springer
2. Springer Nature Switzerland, 2024. |
Description | XIII, 414 p. 261 illus., 109 illus. in color : online resource |
Abstract Note | This book is not simply about electronics but rather a thorough exploration of physics. Instead of isolating electronics as an art, its primary goal is to explain the physical principles behind electronic circuits and how they are applied practically. Electronics provides a framework for understanding physics, and vice versa. It is intended for advanced undergraduate or graduate students in physics or related fields who have a basic grasp of electromagnetism and calculus. It also caters to individuals with practical electronics knowledge looking to deepen their understanding of often overlooked concepts. While traditional textbooks treat electronics as a set of techniques, the growing availability of affordable acquisition boards and user-friendly software has diminished the need for expertise in circuit design. Nonetheless, physicists still need to comprehend concepts like stability, impedance matching, noise, and the advantages and limitations of signal sampling. Starting with linear time-invariant systems and feedback, the book progresses to designing circuits using operational amplifiers and oscillators, covering stability and dissipation. It also delves into the Nyquist-Shannon theorem and the basics of digital electronics, emphasizing state-sensitive and clock-sensitive operators. Additionally, it offers an overview of electronic devices facilitating analog-to-digital conversion. The book concludes by examining scenarios involving high frequencies where wires act as waveguides and addressing noise sources from thermal agitation and the corpuscular nature of current. Theoretical concepts are reinforced with solved exercises, and practical "in-the-lab" sections guide readers through experiments using affordable kits and instruments, requiring minimal electronic prototyping knowledge |

Title | Co-simulations of Microwave Circuits and High-Frequency Electromagnetic Fields |
Author(s) | Tong, Mei Song;Li, Xiao Yu |
Publication | Singapore, 1. Imprint: Springer
2. Springer Nature Singapore, 2024. |
Description | XX, 445 p. 173 illus., 166 illus. in color : online resource |
Abstract Note | This book aims to provide many advanced application topics for microwave circuits and high-frequency electromagnetic (EM) fields by using advanced design system (ADS) and high-frequency structure simulator (HFSS) as simulation platforms. In particular, it contains the latest multidisciplinary co-simulation guidance on the design of relevant components and devices. Currently, the circuit/field design and performance analysis and optimization strongly rely on various kinds of robust electronic design automation (EDA) software. RF/microwave engineers must grasp two or more types of related simulation design software. ADS by Keysight and HFSS by Ansys are the representative for circuit simulations and for field and structural simulations of microwave devices, respectively. At present, these two types of software are widely used in enterprises, universities, and research institutions. The main purpose of this book is to enable readers, who are interested in microwave engineering and applied electromagnetics, to master the applications of these two tools. It also helps readers expand their knowledge boundaries behind those types of software and deepen their understanding of developing interdisciplinary technologies by co-simulations. The book is divided into three parts. The first part introduces the two latest versions of ADS and HFSS and helps readers better understand the basic principles and latest functions better. It also advises how to choose appropriate simulation tools for different problems. The second part mainly describes co-simulations for high-frequency EM fields, microwave circuits, antenna designs, EM compatibility (EMC), and thermal and structural analyses. It provides guides and advices on performing co-simulations by ADS and HFSS incorporated with other types of software, respectively. The last part narrates the automation interfaces and script programming methods for co-simulations. It primarily deals with the Advanced Extension Language (AEL), Python Data Link (PDL), and MATLAB interface in ADS. For HFSS, it discusses VBScript, IronPython scripting, and Application Programming Interface (APIs) based on MATLAB. Each topic contains practical examples to help readers understand so that they can gain a solid knowledge and skills regarding automated interfaces and scripting methods based on these kinds of software. Concisely written in combination with practical examples, this book is very suitable as a textbook in introductory courses on microwave circuit and EM simulations and also as a supplementary textbook in many courses on electronics, microwave engineering, communication engineering, and related fields. As well, it can serve as a reference book for microwave engineers and researchers |
