PublicationCham, Springer International Publishing, 2020.
Description476 illus., 441 illus. in color. eReference : online resource
Abstract NoteIn the past decade, the field of small satellites has expanded the space industry in a powerful way. Hundreds, indeed thousands, of these innovative and highly cost-efficient satellites are now being launched from Earth to establish low-cost space systems. These smallsats are engaged in experiments and prototype testing, communications services, data relay, internet access, remote sensing, defense and security related services, and more. Some of these systems are quite small and are simple student experiments, while others in commercial constellations are employing state-of-the-art technologies to deliver fast and accurate services. This handbook provides a comprehensive overview of this exciting new field. It covers the technology, applications and services, design and manufacture, launch arrangements, ground systems, and economic and regulatory arrangements surrounding small satellites. The diversity of approach in recent years has allowed for rapid innovation and economic breakthroughs to proceed at a pace that seems only to be speeding up. In this reference work, readers will find information pertaining to all aspects of the small satellite industry, written by a host of international experts in the field

TitleThe Quantum Internet : Ultrafast and Safe from Hackers
Author(s)F??rnkranz, G??sta
PublicationCham, Springer International Publishing, 2020.
DescriptionXVII, 269 p. 21 illus., 16 illus. in color : online resource
Abstract NoteThe internet can look forward to a fantastic future! With new quantum technology, hacker-proof exchange of information and ultrafast data processing will become possible. The basis for these is Albert Einstein's "quantum spook". We are not dealing here with sorcery, but with hard-core science. This book undertakes a fascinating journey through the world of our quantum future - from the first "quantum satellite" to high-security internet, the quantum cloud and beyond, to partly futuristic applications. The author guides the reader through the basic ideas of quantum physics, explains the concepts of quantum computers, quantum cryptography, and quantum teleportation, and then establishes their relationship to the quantum Internet. Special attention is paid not only to the technical challenges involved, but also to the likely effects on society. Alongside examples of implementation, the author intersperses delightful anecdotes, which bring the story to life. With this book you will learn how quantum physics can revolutionize the internet! "... in lively prose the author presents the current state of research in its whole breadth and splendour ??? valuable and entertaining reading!??? PublicationSingapore, Springer Singapore, 2019.
DescriptionVII, 170 p. 103 illus., 78 illus. in color : online resource
Abstract NoteThis book gives a contemporary overview of the technologies of single-frequency fiber lasers. The development of single-frequency fiber lasers is one of the most significant achievements in the field of laser photonics over the past two decades. Owing to the crucial demands of a laser sources with highly stable single-frequency operation, narrow linewidth, low noise, scalable to high output power, compact and robustness structure, fiber lasers have been intensively studied since its introduction to the single-frequency laser community and they still continuously proceed to trigger the emergence of new technologies and applications. This book systematically demonstrates the single-frequency fiber laser technologies from fundamental principles to state-of-the-art progress. Details of selected typical applications of single-frequency fiber lasers are also given and discussed. The reader will acquire a good knowledge of the current situation within this important field

TitleQuantum Error Correction : Symmetric, Asymmetric, Synchronizable, and Convolutional Codes
Author(s)La Guardia, Giuliano Gadioli
PublicationCham, Springer International Publishing, 2020.
DescriptionXIII, 227 p : online resource
Abstract NoteThis text presents an algebraic approach to the construction of several important families of quantum codes derived from classical codes by applying the well-known Calderbank-Shor-Steane (CSS) construction, the Hermitian, and the Steane???s enlargement construction to certain classes of classical codes. These quantum codes have good parameters and have been introduced recently in the literature. In addition, the book presents families of asymmetric quantum codes with good parameters and provides a detailed description of the procedures adopted to construct families of asymmetric quantum convolutional codes. Featuring accessible language and clear explanations, the book is suitable for use in advanced undergraduate and graduate courses as well as for self-guided study and reference. It provides an expert introduction to algebraic techniques of code construction and, because all of the constructions are performed algebraically, it equips the reader to construct families of codes, rather than only codes with specific parameters. The text offers an abundance of worked examples, exercises, and open-ended problems to motivate the reader to further investigate this rich area of inquiry. End-of-chapter summaries and a glossary of key terms allow for easy review and reference

DescriptionXXIII, 608 p. 256 illus., 9 illus. in color : online resource
Abstract NoteThis book provides comprehensive, graduate-level treatment of analog and digital signal analysis suitable for course use and self-guided learning. This expert text guides the reader from the basics of signal theory through a range of application tools for use in acoustic analysis, geophysics, and data compression. Each concept is introduced and explained step by step, and the necessary mathematical formulae are integrated in an accessible and intuitive way. The first part of the book explores how analog systems and signals form the basics of signal analysis. This section covers Fourier series and integral transforms of analog signals, Laplace and Hilbert transforms, the main analog filter classes, and signal modulations. Part II covers digital signals, demonstrating their key advantages. It presents z and Fourier transforms, digital filtering, inverse filters, deconvolution, and parametric modeling for deterministic signals. Wavelet decomposition and reconstruction of non-stationary signals are also discussed. The third part of the book is devoted to random signals, including spectral estimation, parametric modeling, and Tikhonov regularization. It covers statistics of one and two random variables and the principles and methods of spectral analysis. Estimation of signal properties is discussed in the context of ergodicity conditions and parameter estimations, including the use of Wiener and Kalman filters. Two appendices cover the basics of integration in the complex plane and linear algebra. A third appendix presents a basic Matlab toolkit for computer signal analysis. This expert text provides both a solid theoretical understanding and tools for real-world applications. Presents the core principles of analog and digital signal analysis Discusses applications to geophysics, acoustic analysis, and data compression Features worked examples, problem sets, and extensive appendices

PublicationBerlin, Heidelberg, Springer Berlin Heidelberg, 2003.
DescriptionXI, 181 p : online resource
Abstract NoteThe aim of this book is to exploit the advantages of holographic technology, namely the high storage capacity and fast access times, in order to implement optical devices for infrared fiber communication applications. The covered methods range from two-lambda to gated recording techniques, all of which can be applied to a variety of materials such as photorefractive crystals and photopolymers. Both techniques and materials are strictly related to the practical realization of signal processing devices, showing their feasibility and discussing their role in a realistic telecoms network. Research scientists, engineers and graduate students will benefit equally from the combined coverage of technological features, optical communications components, and network perspectives
