Author(s) | Kumar, Upendra |
Publication | Singapore, 1. Imprint: Springer
2. Springer Nature Singapore, 2024. |
Description | VI, 519 p. 148 illus., 115 illus. in color : online resource |
Abstract Note | This book highlights the history of electroceramics starting from synthesis using different routes of the solid solution to hybrid nanocomposites and its applications in different renewable energy, thermistor, actuators, thermoelectric, thermo-optic, sensor, and much more applications in electronic industry. In ceramic materials, the properties are controlled by doping and composition, but the grain size and the porosity of the sintered ceramics also play essential roles. The latter features depend on the method of fabrication. The end-user requirements define the optimum physical and chemical properties of ceramic materials. Therefore, the design and fabrication of ceramic components are multidisciplinary, spanning physical chemistry, metallurgy, and chemical engineering. Also included in this book are the various characterizing techniques to study the physical properties of ceramics |

Title | Acoustic Metamaterials : Absorption, Cloaking, Imaging, Time-Modulated Media, and Topological Crystals |
Author(s) | Craster, Richard;Guenneau, S??bastien |
Publication | Cham, 1. Imprint: Springer
2. Springer Nature Switzerland, 2024. |
Description | XXXVI, 541 p. 232 illus., 116 illus. in color : online resource |
Abstract Note | The revised edition of this book offers an expanded review of acoustic metamaterials; novel materials which can manipulate sound waves, surface Rayleigh waves and water waves, in surprising ways, which include collimation, focusing, negative refraction, passive and active cloaking, sonic screening and extraordinary transmission. It covers both experimental and theoretical aspects of acoustic and elastic waves propagating in structured composites, with a focus on effective properties associated with negative refraction, lensing and cloaking. Updated chapters cover filtering effects, extraordinary transmission, sub-wavelength imaging via tomography or time-reversal techniques, cloaking via transformation acoustics, elastodynamics, and acoustic scattering cancellation. For this revised edition, six new chapters have been introduced to reflect recent developments in experimental acoustics and metasurfaces including acoustic impedance gratings and mirror symmetric metamaterials, phononic subsurfaces, time-modulated and topological crystals. The latter two are illustrated by simple Python program examples. The broad scope gives the reader an overview of the state of the art in acoustic metamaterials research and an indication of future directions and applications. It will serve as a solid introduction to the field for advanced students and researchers in physics, applied mathematics and mechanical engineering, and a valuable reference for those working in metamaterials and related areas.and researchers in physics, applied mathematics and mechanical engineering, and a valuable reference for those working in metamaterials and related areas |

Title | Spin Glasses : Criticality and Energy Landscapes |
Author(s) | Baity Jesi, Marco |
Publication | Cham, Springer International Publishing, 2016. |
Description | XXIX, 221 p. 71 illus., 24 illus. in color : online resource |
Abstract Note | This thesis addresses the surprising features of zero-temperature statics and dynamics of several spin glass models, including correlations between soft spins that arise spontaneously during avalanches, and the discovery of localized states that involve the presence of two-level systems. It also presents the only detailed historiographical research on the spin glass theory. Despite the extreme simplicity of their definition, spin glasses display a wide variety of non-trivial behaviors that are not yet fully understood. In this thesis the author sheds light on some of these, focusing on both the search for phase transitions under perturbations of Hamiltonians and the zero-temperature properties and responses to external stimuli. After introducing spin glasses and useful concepts on phase transitions and numerics, the results of two massive Monte Carlo campaigns on three-dimensional systems are presented: The first of these examines the de Almeida???Thouless transition, and proposes a new finite-size scaling ansatz, which accelerates the convergence to the thermodynamic limit. The second reconstructs the phase diagram of the Heisenberg spin glass with random exchange anisotropy. |

Title | Atomic Diffusion in Glasses Studied with Coherent X-Rays |
Author(s) | Ross, Manuel |
Publication | Cham, Springer International Publishing, 2016. |
Description | XVIII, 111 p. 67 illus., 22 illus. in color : online resource |
Abstract Note | This thesis provides the first successful study of jump diffusion processes in glasses on the atomic scale, utilizing a novel coherent technique. This new method, called atomic-scale X-ray Photon Correlation Spectroscopy or aXPCS, has only recently been proven to be able to capture diffusion processes with atomic resolution in crystal systems. With this new toolkit for studying atomic diffusion in amorphous systems, new insight into basic processes in a wide range of technically relevant materials, like fast ionic conductors, can be obtained |
