Title | The Hamilton-Type Principle in Fluid Dynamics : Fundamentals and Applications to Magnetohydrodynamics, Thermodynamics, and Astrophysics |
Author(s) | Fierros Palacios, Angel |
Publication | Vienna, Springer Vienna, 2006. |
Description | XXV, 404 p : online resource |
Abstract Note | The objective of this book is to contribute to specialized literature with the most significant results obtained by the author in Continuous Mechanics and Astrophysics. The nature of the book is largely determined by the fact that it describes Fluid Dynamics,Magnetohydrodynamics, and Classical Thermodynamics as branches of Lagrange???s Analytical Mechanics; and in that sense, the approach presented in it is markedly different from the treatment given to them in traditional text books. In order to reach that goal, a Hamilton-Type Variational Principle, as the proper mathermatical technique for the theoretical description of the dy- mic state of any fluid is formulated. The scheme is completed proposing a new group of variations regarding the evolution parameter which is time; and with the demonstration of a theorem concerning the invariance of the action integral under continuous and infinitesimal temporary transfor- tions. With all that has been mentioned before and taking into account the methodsof thecalculusof variationsandtheadequateboundaryconditions, a general methodology for the mathematical treatment of fluid flows characteristic of Fluid Dynamics, Magnetohydrodynamics, and also fluids at rest proper of Classical Thermodynamics is presented |

Title | Quantitative EPR |
Author(s) | Eaton, Gareth R;Eaton, Sandra S;Barr, David P;Weber, Ralph T |
Publication | Vienna, Springer Vienna, 2010. |
Description | XII, 185 p : online resource |
Abstract Note | This is the first comprehensive yet practical guide for people who perform quantitative EPR measurements. No existing book provides this level of practical guidance to ensure the successful use of EPR. There is a growing need in both industrial and academic research to provide meaningful and accurate quantitative EPR results. This text discusses the various sample, instrument and software related aspects required for EPR quantitation. Specific topics include: choosing a reference standard, resonator considerations (Q, B1, Bm), power saturation characteristics, sample positioning, and finally, putting all the factors together to obtain an accurate spin concentration of a sample |

Title | Complete Atlas of Polarization Observables in Deuteron Photodisintegration Below Pion-Threshold |
Author(s) | Schmitt, K.-M;Arenh??vel, H |
Publication | Vienna, Springer Vienna, 1991. |
Description | VIII, 298 p : online resource |
Abstract Note | For the first time, a complete calculation of all 288 polarization observables of deuteron photodisintegration for polarized photons and an oriented deuteron target is presented for energies below +-production threshold. The observables are calculated within a nonrelativistic framework but with inclusion of lowest-order relativistic effects. Explicit meson exchange currents and isobar configurations as manifestation of subnuclear degrees of freedom are included in the calculation. The sensitivity of the various polarization observables with respect to subnuclear degrees of freedom, to electric and magnetic multipole contributions and to a variety of realistic potential models are systematically investigated. Thus this atlas provides the most detailed and systematic survey on polarization observables of this important process. It allows to analyse the different dynamical properties of the np-system as contained in the various observables and, therefore, will be useful for both theoretical studies and for the planning and evaluation of experiments as well. It serves in addition as an important supplement to the recent general review on deuteron photodisintegration by A. Arenh??vel and M. Sanzone (Few-Body Systems, Suppl. 3) |

Title | Modeling of Defects and Fracture Mechanics |
Author(s) | Herrmann, G |
Publication | Vienna, Springer Vienna, 1993. |
Description | VII, 206 p. 10 illus : online resource |
Abstract Note | All materials contain numerous defects, such as microcracks, microvoids, inhomogeneities, dislocations, etc., which precede possible fracture. Thus mathematical modeling becomes necessary. This volume contains some introductory material, aspects of fracture mechanics, the theory of crystal defects, computational micromechanics, and the heterogenization methodology |

Title | Electromagnetic Separation of Radioactive Isotopes : Proceedings of the International Symposium Held in Vienna, May 23???25, 1960 |
Author(s) | Higatsberger, Michael J;Viehb??ck, Franz P |
Publication | Vienna, Springer Vienna, 1961. |
Description | VIII, 318 p. 61 illus : online resource |
Abstract Note | During the war years the techniques for electromagnetic separation of radioactive nuclides have made great progress. Ever since then further improvements have been accomplished to separate stable nuclides and in more recent years special attention has been given to the problem of separating radioactive nuclides, especially in con?? nection with spallation and high energy fission studies. This poses slightly different problems, as the amounts of radioactive material may be very small indeed, highly diluted and the whole separation procedure has often to be a very rapid one, as some of the nuclides have a very short half-life. . On quite a number of the bigger machines very valuable operating experience has been gained and it was, therefore, a very good idea to hold a symposium' covering all the aspects of electromagnetic separation, where technicians could discuss the recent advances in this wide field. It is to be welcomed that at this symposium all aspects were discussed, from the details of vacuum systems, as well as sub?? jects like magnets, ion sources, scattering mechanisms, to the health physics problems connected, for example, with the electromagnetic separation of plutonium, as well as applications of mass separation. These proceedings are, therefore, essential for all those who do work in this field or contemplate to enter into it. Vienna, May 1961 |
