Title | AGN feedback in galaxy formation: Proceedings of the workshop held in Vulcano, Italy, May 18-22, 2008 |
Author(s) | Vincenzo Antonuccio-Delogu (ed.);Joseph Silk (ed.) |
Publication | Cambridge, Cambridge University Press, 2011. |
Description | xv, 201p. |
Abstract Note | Book addresses a number of key questions about AGN feedback in the context of galaxy formation. The topics covered include downsizing and star-formation time scales in massive elliptical galaxies, the connection between the epochs of supermassive black hole growth and galaxy formation and the question of whether AGN and star formation coexist. Authors also discuss key challenging computational problems, including jet-interstellar/intergalactic medium interactions, and both jet- and merging-induced star formation. Suitable for researchers and graduate students in astrophysics, this volume reflects the engaging and lively discussions taking place in this emerging field of research.

Title | New horizons in astronomy: Frank N. Bash sysposium 2007: Proceedings of a workshop held at the University of Texas, Austin, Texas, USA 14 - 16 October 2007 |
Author(s) | Anna Frebel (ed.);Justyn R. Maund (ed.);Juntai Shen (ed.);Michael H. Siegel (ed.) |
Publication | San Francisco, Astronomical Society of the Pacific, 2008. |
Description | xx, 304p. |
Series | (Astronomical Society of the Pacific Conference Series) |
Abstract Note | The symposium centered around invited review talks by thirteen postdoctoral researchers covering the vast range of modern astronomical research, from the dynamics of small bodies in the Solar System, to globular clusters in the Milky Way and neighboring galaxies, to theories and observations of galaxy formation in the early Universe, and the instruments being designed for the thirty-meter class telescopes that will be used to study these diverse fields. Poster contributions from undergraduate and graduate students as well as postdoctoral researchers rounded out the conference. These posters also covered a wide variety of topics, including abundances in metal-rich and metal-poor stars, galaxy formation and evolution, multi-wavelength observations, and theoretical studies of supernovae and the early Universe.
