Title | Interstellarum deep sky guide: Desk Edition |
Author(s) | Ronald Stoyan ;Uwe Glahn |
Publication | Cambridge, Cambridge University Press, 2018. |
Description | pp. 264; 150 maps; 3 tables ; 280 x 285 x 25 mm |
Abstract Note | The interstellarum Deep Sky Atlas heralds a new era of celestial cartography. It is an innovative, practical tool to choose and find stars, star clusters, nebulae and galaxies. Usually, deep sky objects are shown with just a standard symbol in the star charts. This atlas is different: all objects are shown according to their actual visibility. Four main visibility classes separate out objects that can be seen through 4-, 8- and 12-inch telescopes. Within each visibility class, the objects are labeled in different type weights and using graduated shades and colors for the symbols - the bolder the label or the darker the symbol, the easier it is to see the object. Spiral-bound and printed in red-light friendly colors on dew-resistant paper, this full-sky atlas has a limiting magnitude of 9.5, plotting over 200,000 stars. It is the ideal companion for amateur observers of all levels. |

Title | Visual astronomy under dark skies: A New Approach to Observing Deep Space |
Author(s) | Antony Cooke |
Publication | London, 1. Springer
2. Springer-Verlag, 2005. |
Description | x, 180p. |
Series | (Patrick Moore's Practical Astronomy Series) |
Abstract Note | Modern astronomical telescopes, along with other advances in technology, have brought the deep sky â star clusters, nebulae and the galaxies â within visual reach of amateur astronomers.
It isnât necessary to image deep-sky objects in order to see them; you look at them in real-time by using modern observing techniques and enhancement technology.
The first requirement is a truly dark observing site. Given a location with clear, dark night skies everything else follows⦠this book contains all you need to know about what to observe, how to get superb views of faint and distant astronomical objects, and how to use the best of todayâs commercial equipment for visual observing. |

Author(s) | Antony Cooke |
Publication | London, 1. Springer
2. Springer-Verlag, 2003. |
Description | xii, 265p. |
Series | (Patrick Moore's Practical Astronomy Series) |
Abstract Note | Most amateur astronomers, because they live in or near cities, have to carry out their observing from relatively light-polluted sites. It is possible to reduce the effects of a poor location by the use of CCD imaging, but many observers prefer to look at astronomical objects rather than photograph them. Skill, observing techniques, and modern technology - such as image intensifiers - can now be used to astonishing effect to observe the night sky in real-time. Illustrating the book with images and some of his own superb drawings, Antony Cooke explains how to observe some of the most spectacular objects from less than perfect observing sites. |

Title | Guidbook to the constellations: Telescopic Sights, Tales, and Myths |
Author(s) | Phil Simpson |
Publication | New York, Springer, 2012. |
Description | xii, 863p |
Series | (Patrick Moore's Practical Astronomy Series) |
Abstract Note | This handbook is a guide to exploring the night sky and its wonderful telescopic sights. All eighty-eight officially recognized constellations in both hemispheres are presented in natural groups, related by their origin and location. The author, a former astronomy instructor and planetarium director, has for over thirty-five years, researched myths from all over the world to identify the most memorable stories which link multiple constellations in a single story. Thus, the interested observer may discover that it will be easier to use already known constellations to locate and remember new constellations. The author has found that showing each constellation figure with a simple line drawing is helpful for remembering each constellation. He includes photographs of many of the brighter celestial objects, as well as many accompanying drawings which illustrate how the telescopic views differ from the photographs. |
