Title | The Vortex State |
Author(s) | Bontemps, N;Bruynseraede, Yvan;Deutscher, Guy;Kapitulnik, Aharon |
Publication | Dordrecht, Springer Netherlands, 1994. |
Description | IX, 328 p : online resource |
Abstract Note | One of the most spectacular consequences of the description of the superfluid condensate in superfluid He or in superconductors as a single macroscopic quantum state is the quantization of circulation, resulting in quantized vortex lines. This book draws no distinction between superfluid He3 and He4 and superconductors. The reader will find the essential introductory chapters and the most recent theoretical and experimental progress in our understanding of the vortex state in both superconductors and superfluids, from lectures given by leading experts in the field, both experimentalists and theoreticians, who gathered in Carg??se for a NATO ASI. The peculiar features related to short coherence lengths, 2D geometry, high temperatures, disorder, and pinning are thoroughly discussed |

Title | Magnetic Bubble Technology |
Author(s) | Eschenfelder, A. H |
Publication | Berlin, Heidelberg, Springer Berlin Heidelberg, 1980. |
Description | online resource |
Abstract Note | Magnetic bubbles are of interest to engineers because their properties can be used for important practical electronic devices and they are of interest to physicists because their properties are manifestations of intriguing physical principles. At the same time, the fabrication of useful configurations challenges the materials scientists and engineers. A technology of magnetic bubbles has developed to the point where commercial products are being marketed. In addition, new discovery and development are driving this technology toward substantially lower costs and presumably broader application. For all of these reasons there is a need to educate newcomers to this field in universities and in industry. The purpose of this book is to provide a text for a one-semester course that can be taught under headings of Solid State Physics, Materials Science, Computer Technology or Integrated Electronics. It is expected that the student of anyone of these disciplines will be interested in each of the chapters of this book to some degree, but may concentrate on some more than others, depending on the discipline. At the end of each chapter there is a brief summary which will serve as a reminder of the contents of the chapter but can also be read ahead of time to determine the depth of your interest in the chapter |

Title | One-Dimensional Conductors |
Author(s) | Kagoshima, Seiichi;Nagasawa, Hiroshi;Sambongi, Takashi |
Publication | Berlin, Heidelberg, Springer Berlin Heidelberg, 1988. |
Description | XII, 235 p : online resource |
Abstract Note | This volume deals with physical properties of electrically one-dimensional conductors. It includes both a description of basic concepts and a review of recent progress in research. One-dimensional conductors are those materials in which an electric current flows easily in one specific crystal direction while the resistivity is very high in transverse directions. It was about 1973 when much attention began to be focussed on them and investigations started in earnest. The research was stimulated by the successful growth of crystals of the organic conductor TTF-TCNQ and of the inorganic conductor KCP. New concepts, characteristic of one dimension, were established in the in?? vestigations of their properties. Many new one-dimensional conductors were also found and synthesized. This field of research is attractive because of the discovery of new ma?? terials, phenomena and concepts which have only recently found a place in the framework of traditional solid-state physics and materials science. The relation of this topic to the wider field of solid-state sciences is therefore still uncertain. This situation is clearly reflected in the wide distribution of the fields of specialization of researchers. Due to this, and also to the rapid progress of research, no introductory book has been available which covers most of the important fields of research on one-dimensional conductors |

Title | Magnetic Flux Structures in Superconductors |
Author(s) | Huebener, Rudolf |
Publication | Berlin, Heidelberg, Springer Berlin Heidelberg, 1979. |
Description | XI, 259 p. 59 illus : online resource |
Abstract Note | The idea for this book originated from an International Conference on Mag?? netic Structures in Superconductors organized by John R. Clem and the author at Argonne National Laboratory (ANL) in September of 1973. Large parts of the book evolved from lectures given to graduate students at the University of TUbingen during the past three years. It is the purpose of this book to provide an introduction to the many features of magnetic flux structures in superconductors and to discuss the this field. Here, in addition to the static proper?? recent developments in ties of magnetic flux structures, the time-dependent phenomena represent an important subject including flux flow and the transport effects in supercon?? ductors. Throughout the book the emphasis is placed on the physical phenom?? ena and the experimental results. We do not attempt a general introduction to superconductivity. Except for a brief discussion of the Ginzburg-Landau theory, with respect to the theoretical developments we only give an outline and refer to the original papers or other reviews for the detail of the calculations. The book is intended for researchers and graduate students interested in the subject of magnetic flux structures in superconductors. It may serve as supplementary material for a graduate course on low-temperature solid?? state physics. During recent years technological applications of supercon?? ducting materials are becoming increasingly important. Here the static and dynamic behavior of magnetic flux structures playa distinguished role. The book may be helpful for people envolved in these engineering aspects of superconductivity |

Title | Magnetic Fields of Celestial Bodies |
Author(s) | Ye Shi-hui |
Publication | Dordrecht, Springer Netherlands, 1994. |
Description | XVI, 340 p : online resource |
Abstract Note | Magnetism is one of the basic properties of matter. Mankind has trav?? elled a long road in discovering and utilizing magnetism, and in this respect the ancient Chinese people have made outstanding contribu?? tions. In the book 'Lu's Spring and Autumn', written near the end of the Warring States Period, i. e. in the third century B. C. , there is a statement on the "attraction of iron by lodestones". So at that time it was known that magnets can attract ferromagnetic material. At the be?? ginning ofthe first century A. D. , viz. in the early years ofthe East Hang Dynasty, the famous scholar Wang Chong wrote in his masterpiece 'Len Hen' that the handle of a magnetic dipper pointed to the south. It was thus discovered at the time that magnets can point to the poles of the geomagnetic field. At the beginning of the twelfth century, during the reign of Emperor Hui of the Sung Dynasty, in the two books written by Zhu Yo and Xu Jin, respectively, there are descriptions of the com?? pass used in navigation. This tells us that the application of compasses was rather widespread at that time. The distinguished scientist Sen Go (1031-1085) discovered the declination of the terrestrial magnetic field. This is four hundred and more years earlier than its discovery by Christopher Columbus in 1492 during his voyage across the Atlantic Ocean. Such facts as these manifest the important contributions of ancient China to global civilization |

Title | Superconductivity in Magnetic and Exotic Materials : Proceedings of the Sixth Taniguchi International Symposium, Kashikojima, Japan, November 14???18, 1983 |
Author(s) | Matsubara, T;Kotani, A |
Publication | Berlin, Heidelberg, Springer Berlin Heidelberg, 1984. |
Description | XII, 216 p : online resource |
Abstract Note | The sixth Taniguchi Symposium on the Theory of Condensed Matter was held between 14-18 November 1983 at Kashikojima. Japan. During the Symposium, about twenty participants lived together and discussed the magnetic super?? conductors and related problems in an active and friendly atmosphere. This volume contains the papers presented at this Symposium. A strong impetus for organizing a Symposium of this subject is afforded by recent intense interest and accumulated information on magnetic and other novel superconductors newly discovered, and indeed the Symposium has pro?? duced many excellent contributions to this very exciting field of condensed matter theory, as reported in this volume. In order to give the readers a general outline of the subject, a brief sketch of the problem is made in the Introduction. Then the remainder of this volume is divided into four Parts and an Appendix. Part I is devoted to di scuss ions on several aspects of ferromagnetic superconductors includ ing superconductivity in heavy fermion systems. Part II treats problems on anti?? ferromagnetic superconductors. In Part III three papers on organic supercon?? ductors are presented. Part IV includes discussions on the exotic supercon?? ductors. The Appendix is concerned with the new research project towards high Tc superconductors in Japan. The last but not least remark is to mention the activity of the Taniguchi Foundation whose support makes this Symposium possible. For many years Mr |
