Abstract NoteThis volume contains the proceedings of the Third Matscience Summer School held at Bangalore in September, 1966. The special feature of these proceedings was two systematic series of lectures, one by F. Pham of C.E.N., Saclay and CERN, Geneva and the other by G. Rickayzen of the University of Kent, Canterbury. Pham dwelt at length on the applications of the methods of alge?? braic topology and differential forms to the study of the analytic properties of S-matrix theory, in particular, with reference to the location of singularities of the multiple scattering processes. This exposition was a natural sequel to the lectures of V. L. Teplitz, pub?? lished in an earlier volume of this series. Rickayzen discus.sed in detail the latest theory of superconductivity. Other lectures were those of Scadron, who dealt with some formal features of potential scattering theory, and B. M. Udgaonkar and A. N. Mitra, who spoke on certain aspects of bootstraps and quark models, respectively. The contributions in pure mathematics in this volume include two lectures by S. K. Singh, one on the field of Mikusinski operators and another on Riemann mapping theorem, and a lecture on cosine func?? tionals by P. L. Kannappan. One of the highlights of the symposium was a lecture by S. K. Srinivasan who is keeping alive the interest of the Madras group in the theory of stochastic processes and who, in particular, has enlarged the domain of the application of the theory of product densities

Abstract NoteThis meeting on Hadron Spectroscopy and the Confinement Problem took place from June 27 to July 8, 1995. The first four days were at Queen Mary and Westfield College, London and the last six at the University College of Swansea, Wales. The reason for the split sites was a question of accomodating the 54 students and 12 lecturers. However, it was enjoyed by all concerned, providing the opportunity to sample the nightlife of London one week and enjoy the delightful coastal area around Swansea the following week. The meeting immediately preceded the Hadron '95 conference in Manchester. The contents of this volume run roughly parallel to the order of the lectures. Martin Faessler's brief and that of Madjid Boutemeur was to review experimental tech?? niques as well as physics results. We have tried to review all the areas which are currently active experimentally. This means mostly Light Meson Spectroscopy. However, Simon Capstick gave us a welcome review of Baryon Spectroscopy and the coming CEBAF program. This is an opportunity to thank NATO for their generous financial support, and also the two host institutions for excellent coordination and an enjoyable stay

Abstract NoteThe seventh Advanced Study Institute (ASI) on Techniques and Concepts of High Energy Physics was held for the second time at the Club St. Croix, in St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands. The ASI brought together a total of 75 participants, from 19 countries. The primary support for the meeting was again provided by the Scientific Affairs Division of NATO. The ASI was cosponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy, by Fermilab, by the National Science Foundation, and by the University of Rochester. A special contribution from the Oliver S. and Jennie R. Donaldson Charitable Trust provided an important degree of flexibility, as well as support for worthy students from developing countries. As in the case of the previous ASIs, the scientific program was designed for advanced graduate students and recent PhD recipients in experimental particle physics. The present volume of lectures should complement the material published in the first six ASIs, and prove to be of value to a wider audience of physicists

Abstract NoteThis volume presents the contributions to the international workshop entitled "Lattice Gauge Theory - a Challenge in Large Scale Computing" that was held in Wuppertal from November 4 to 7, 1985. This meeting was the third in a series of European workshops in this rapidly developing field. The meeting intended to bring together both active university research?? ers in this field and scientists from industry and research centers who pursue large scale computing projects on problems within lattice gauge theory. These problems are extremely demanding from the point of view of both machine hardware and algorithms, for the verification of the continuum fields theories like Quantum Chromodynamics in four-dimensional Euclidean space-time is quite cumbersome due to the tremendously large number of de?? grees of freedom. Yet the motivation of theoretical physicists to exploit computers as tools for the simulation of complex systems such as gauge field theories has grown considerably during the past years. In fact, quite a few prominent colleagues of ours have even gone into machine building, both in industry and research institutions: more parallelism, and more de?? dicated computer architecture are their design goals to help them boost the Megaflop rate in their simulation processes. The workshop contained several interesting seminars with status reports on such supercomputer projects like the Italian APE (by E. Marinari), the IBM project GF-11 (by D. Weingarten), and the Danish projects MOSES and PALLAS (by H. Bohr)

The school continues a tradition that started on a small scale back in 1968, fo?? cussing mainly on current problems in nuclear physics. Though the organizing of this edition started very late and in very uncertain economic and financial conditions, it turned out to be the largest meeting of this type ever organized in Romania, both in topics and participation. There were many applicants for participation and grants, considerably more than could be handled. Abstract NoteIn the spring of 1970 Peter Farago organised a three-day conference on Polarised Electron Beams at Carberry Tower, near Edinburgh. Although the development of the gallium arsenide source, which was to revolutionise the world of experimental polarised electron physics, was still some years in the future, the meeting provided an important forum for the exchange of ideas among theoreticians and experimentalists engaged in both high and low energy electron collision studies. As soon as the decision had been taken to hold the 5th European Conference on Atomic and Molecular Physics in Edinburgh in 1995, it occurred to the editors of the present volume that it would be highly appropriate to mark the twenty-fifth anniversary of the Carberry Tower Conference by organising an ECAMP satellite meeting in honour of Peter Farago. The opportunity to pay tribute to Peter's many important contributions in the broad field of electron physics attracted colleagues from allover the world to the symposium, which was held in the rooms of the Royal Society of Edinburgh on 31st March and 1st April 1995. Peter himself, now Professor Emeritus at the University of Edinburgh, was present throughout the meeting. We were particularly happy to welcome back to Edinburgh many participants in the original Carberry Tower conference; these included Professor P. G. Burke, Professor J. Kessler, Professor E.
